Happy New Year! We made it…together.  Another year behind us, a brand new one ahead.

Oh, the bright and beautiful possibilities!

It’s that time again, for setting our intentions, making our own personal creative goals and exploring new ways of being in the world. For the last few years, we’ve joined collective energy with our dear friend Ali Edwards through her One Little Word tradition. Way back when, at the start of our One Word Project, it was Ali that inspired us and proved that indeed, One Little Word could make a really Big difference in our creative journeys.

Today, we kick off this month of beginnings with YOUR word. We did it last year, just like this; asking YOU to celebrate YOUR word all month long for the One Word Project, in honor of One Little Word. YOUR word. Share it with us here in the comments and in our OWP Flickr group and who knows, YOUR word might be featured here!

So, as we start, share with us…what word do YOU choose to begin 2012?

  2. Happy 2012!!! I decided early in December, when all felt lost, that my words for would be CALM and COURAGE. I hope both will help me through the good, bad and the ugly this year.

  6. My word for 2012 is CHALLENGE. I am looking forward to challenging myself this year. It is time to mix things up a little. =]

    PLENTY

    i just have to look around me and inside myself to feel it
    and i will go on trying to capture it in my images

  15. My word for 2012 will be "MORE" – I put forth some efforts towards my goals last year, but this year I definitely need to do MORE.

  19. Happy New Year to you!! CAN is my word for 2012. I hope this word will guide me through the negative thinking of myself and those around me so that I can see I really CAN do what makes me happy.

    What I ask for this year is a daily dose of INSPIRATION. I should be long past needing it, but I sorely need it right now! Not just in my photography, but in my everyday life.

  26. Happy New Year! I thought I would start 2012 with the word CREATE. I have so many goals, ideas, and resolutions dancing around my head it's hard to narrow it down. One common characteristic among all my ideas is they all relate to the word create.

  27. my word for 2012 SURVIVE!! my baby graduates,goes off to college and it would have been my 25th wedding anniversary this year. Between all that im sure other things will happen that will put me into survival mode. Im battered and bruised from the end of 2011 so now im just leery of 2012*biting nails* glad I slept through it at lease heheehe

    I want to find grace in the world around me; I want to live gracefully and graciously.

  29. change doesn't happen over night & life is a continual ebb & flow of process….understanding that, setting goals & dreaming big has brought me to my word for the year: BECOME.

  37. Action. That is my word. I have the ideas, I have the desire, I have the ability. It's time to put all of that to good use.

  38. My word for 2012 is BUILD. I want to build on what I already know, build relationships, build stuff with my two hands and build a business. All that, while building up my family and my friends. Cheers to 2012 and the all building it brings!

  44. I'm still thinking about two words….relax and trust. Knowing that if I can truly trust, then I can relax. Maybe I'll choose both!

  46. My word for this year is 'Do' . . . I cannot think of any way to depict that photographically, but for this year, I want to stop just going through the motions and actually "DO" things: things for me, things for others, things that matter, but 'DO' them. I want to stop second guessing, stop worrying, stop wondering why or what if . . . just DO it.

  47. My word for 2012 is CONNECT. I'm handwriting letters to friends and not-yet friends each week, scheduling regular girls' nights, joining a meditation group, going back to my old yoga studio, volunteering, etc. in order to build quality, more intimate connections with the people in my life. By the end of the year, I expect to be immersed in love and community.

  48. My word for this year found me, right here in the Shutter Sisters blog. My word is SAVOR, but I am combining it with "discover" as well. I want to SAVOR everything that comes my way. I know that in real life, there are many flavors to life: good, bad, sweet, bitter, sour. I want to be able to live in the moment, enjoy the good things that I have, even though my circumstances may not be the best. I am looking forward to this year!

  53. woo-hoo! welcome 2012! my word this year is DOCUMENT. i feel like i've missed so much in the past couple of years…not going to happen this year. this picture isn't perfect, but i always want to remember hiking with my best friend in the early morning hours of a new year. we talked about hopes we have for each of our families…and for each other…and for ourselves. it was a beautiful start to a beautiful {documented} year. ๐Ÿ™‚

  58. PRESENCE. Too many times I find the day or week have passed by and feeling like I missed out. Too many, 'just a minutes' to my five-year old, too few days of sitting and playing legos, reading books together, listening to his stories and inventions, too little time enjoying the little moments in life that make it so grand.

  70. My word for 2012 is CONFIDENCE…I seem to have lost mine and need to locate it. I am not sure how I will tie that into a photograph for this month, but I guess we will see what turns up…

  75. Happy New Year!! My word for 2012 is "BELIEVE" (I even purchased a necklace through Etsy with the word stamped on it to remind me).

  76. My word is Hope. I have hope at the moment with a personal matter and I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Hope feels good. I like Hope. I'm going to focus on that and hold onto it.
