adventures near and far

June 29, 2008 By Tracey Clark

062908_600.jpg

At this very moment my family and I are far from home enjoying a new landscape and discovering uncharted surroundings on our first adventure of the summer. But alas, you all know full well that you don’t have to travel to find wonders both big and small.

AAH%20button%20180.jpg

This is the last week of our month long Sundays at Home series. Truth be told, I hate to see it go. Perhaps it will be something we decide to bring back time and again. What do you think?

In the meantime, go ahead an leave your comments here for your shot at the last random drawing to win the book America and Home (custom cover and all). And be sure to leave us a link to some kind of wonderful discovery you made at home. Magic is everywhere and you don’t even have to leave home to find it. Show us what’s going on at your place.

Congrats to Maine Momma Kristen who was the winner of last week’s drawing.

Hmmm, a flower that looks like it is approaching a spider web. Reminded me of that poem that used to both scare and thrill me as a kid:

Normally the dogs and I have our little morning routine down pat. For whatever reason though, I stepped out into our backyard to leave earlier than I normally would. Now, don’t get me wrong, the texas sky is one of my favorite parts about living here but I so rarely get to see this particular morning mood of hers.

I have the same butterfly photographed right out by front door! But then we had an interesting discussion in the comments on whether it’s a butterfly or a moth. Butterfly won. (Junonia coenia. A Buckeye Butterfly.)

Too cool to get it resting on a hand though! Love your photo!

I love that butterfly shot, but the buggy captured on your blog is my favorite! I live in the country and Amish scenes like that are quite familiar, but never, ever have I seen it captured in a photo so exquisitely! This shot of a rainbow was taken from home at my clothesline:

Raindrops on our Japanese Maple following a severe storm. It was amazing to see the stillness of the leaves and the huge drops that remained, especially considering the winds that this tiny little tree had endured.

A Sunday afternoon walk at the beach produced this photo of my son. It’s one of those shots that I’ll cherish forever because it embodies everything that he is….part adventurer, part beach comber, part boy, and part pirate!
