almost black & white

February 25, 2012 By Paige Balcer

Sometimes there’s no need for a black and white photo conversion when the natural scenery provides it for us. Believe it or not, the above photograph is in full color! Other than a little contrast bump, I haven’t altered this image. I am typically drawn to color photography more than black and whites. But it’s a good exercise for me to focus on composition and perspective in an environment that is naturally void of color.

Have you ever taken a photo that’s mostly black & white on it’s own? If so, please share.

Beautiful image. Gotta love that snow! http://instamaticgratification.wordpress.com/2012/02/16/47366/. This one is much different and yet also naturally black and white: http://instamaticgratification.wordpress.com/2012/01/25/25366/

Snow photos are so beautiful – not much snow in my area, but we do get opportunities to shoot in fog. This one was taken a while back – no editing other than a bit of cropping (foggy winter day).

Mine is very similar to yours. We don't get a lot of snow on the Wet Coast, when we do it's an "event".(for me anyway)

This one also didn't have a lot of colour on it's own.

I like that it happens, then there's not so much of a decision to take it all the way to black and white – which I sometimes forget is an option.

These fog photographs look like they are black and white, but are not.

Took this "almost" black and white SOOC (but mostly grays) in mid-2010. I immediately thought of it when I saw this post. Here's my take: http://www.flickr.com/photos/breslin/6929119303/in/photostream

Here's a silhouette shot I took last weekend at the beach – all the color just faded away as I shot directly into the sun.

My natural black and white picture is the second shot from the top. Other then cropping the picture in, it's straight out of camera.

How serendipitous . . . my post of yesterday is "almost black & white".
It was monochromatic SOOC, but my style = (heavy) processing . . .

Here's one that a lot of folks mistake for a monochrome. Thanks to everyone for sharing. Just the inspiration I needed this morning while sipping on my first cup of coffee.

Awesome post Nick. It's wonderful to see how many businesses and brands are taking advantage of Facebook pages. But I agree, it has to be executed correctly to be effective. Great ideas here!
