Anticipation

January 11, 2011 By Chris Sneddon

After all the holiday rush, January is always a let down for me.  The days are short, the air is too cool and everything seems drab and colorless.  Wanting spring and all it’s glory to be here now, I find myself searching out color anywhere I can, be it the finches that populate my bare tree or the many spring seed catalogs that arrive in my mailbox on a daily basis.  My anticipation of the new season is palpable and I find it difficult to wait for the colors of spring.

What about you? Are you a spring or winter person? Please make my winter a little bit brighter and share with us your seasonal shots, too.

I am a summer person. But this one reminds me of a winter in the Bahamas.

Isn't it great, our photography can take us back to enjoy any season of the year! Here's a little bit of spring color for you, from a visit I made to Oregon last year. Oregon has the BEST spring color. It's the reward for the rainy, grey winters.

I have a really hard time with winter. I took this shot recently and I was really surprised with the color that came with it. Sure I boosted the blacks a bit….but everything else came with such an unexpected surprise:

Oh, I'm a spring person – a summer person, even. So seasonal shots for me now is all about colour and warmth and coziness inside of my home, rather than the black and white world on the outside.

I am definitely a summer person. But the other day, on a blustery walk, I realized how lovely the holidays were and how I'm really glad that the hustle and bustle is over! It felt relaxing to stroll along in the slushy snow and not think about shopping or wrapping or parties – and just think about capturing the golden early-afternoon light. Perhaps I'm learning to appreciate Mother Nature in all her moods. Of course, I may feel differently shoveling out from 12 inches tomorrow…

I actually love winter. But to help with the blahness, I always buy bouquets of flowers from the supermarket and put them in little vases all throughout my house.

I was so bummed about all the grey recently, that I couldn't help but colour up my life by sharing some of my pictures from New Zealand's spring. http://myskytimes.wordpress.com/2010/12/22/colouring-up-my-life/

I used to be a summer person… now, not so much anymore. But I surely miss colours during the dark season. May the sun come back very soon.

This weekend I had the opportunity to shoot some "halfway there!" pictures of a friend who's expecting her first child. It's January and cold and gray, but she wore these bight orange gloves, which showed her personality and gave us a little pop of color!

I'm definitely a spring, summer, fall person — I live up north where we have REAL winter. I'm talking bitter cold 20 below and colder for months up on months and lots of snow. The last of the snow doesn't melt until early May. The first snow arrives in September or October each year. That is winter. It's pretty but it's bitter.

I miss the colors of spring and summer and autumn. I love the warm seasons. The winter shows no abundance of color, the winter is rather monochrome. And sometimes it helps to reduce the view of the little small things.
But when the sun shines in winter and the sky is beautiful blue and white of the snow, then so are the many, many colors that you like.
We have taken a short vacation in the Alps and had the good fortune to the winter at its best experience.

i'm an 'every season' person. i really do like every season for the different beauty that can be found in each. here in the south snow is rare, so when it does comes along i find it very beautiful – the clean white, the blue shadows, the red cardinals pop in the evergreens, the beech leaves bring color that on an ordinary winter day may seem drab
