at the pub

December 2, 2011 By Xanthe Berkeley

Gathering at the pub is such a British tradition… and we find ourselves there even more so in the build up to the festive season… a cosy pub, with comfy sofas, your favourite tipple and snacks, make it all so welcoming. I like to savor this time as friends and family connect to celebrate the holidays, and share in togetherness as the year comes to an end.

I’d love to see how you’re gathering with loved ones at the moment and savoring these moments over food, drinks and treats. Please share them here today… Cheers!

one day on earth

November 18, 2011 By Xanthe Berkeley

Last Friday was 11.11.11, when we “all become one” and took part in the beckoning of lovely. There were also other wonderful projects happening that day…..

I took part in One Day On Earth last year on 10.10.10….. So when they said they were repeating the project on 11.11.11, I jumped right in, photographing and filming my day. I was really thankful to capture the ordinary things I see throughout my day, to keep a record of it just for me and maybe for it to make it into the film….. I’m still working through all my footage and can’t wait to see it come together.

One Day On Earth is calling out for any photos or videos from that day and so if you shot something on 11.11.11 send it their way… you can find all the information here.

What were you doing on 11.11.11?

i believe

November 4, 2011 By Xanthe Berkeley

I believe in magic.

I believe things happen for a reason.

I believe setting my intentions can make a difference.

I believe it is important to be thankful for the little things we have.

I believe in loving with all my heart.

I believe in friendship and kindred spirits.

I believe it’s ok to take a risk and step out of that comfort zone.

I believe in giving myself permission.

I believe what comes around goes around. Karma.

I believe in myself.

Lessons I learnt on Camp.

What do you believe?

***************************************************************************************

Also, if you pop over to Hello Canvas facebook page today and comment about what you are most grateful for, you could win a 20×24 canvas….

I believe this is an amazing giveaway!

lensbaby love

October 26, 2011 By Xanthe Berkeley

Lensbaby kindly offered us at Camp Shutter Sisters a chance to play with the Lensbaby Composer Pro and one of my highlights of camp was hosting a walk down to the beach to experiment with these babies. I had been playing and learning the joys and difficulties of the Lensbaby Composer Pro before I arrived at camp, hoping to impart some knowledge or tips once we were there.

What I have discovered is that playing is the best way to approach this lens. It’s kinda like going back to basics, like when we first learnt how to use our cameras. You have to focus manually, find the “sweet spot”, maybe bend the lens to create some movement and find peace with the dreamy effect and what lands in your camera.

Some people get it right away, some get frustrated, some enjoy the challenge, some have patience to wait and discover something special and some do not. Sometimes working hard for an image makes it extra special. Thankfully many of the campers surrendered to the beauty of what was happening and some magic ensued…..

Beautiful fun moments, carefully crafted portraits, and breathtaking views of the surroundings.

Thank you Lensbaby for giving us the opportunity to play and create on camp.

We wanted to keep the Lensbaby love flowing, so please leave a comment today for a chance to win a Lensbaby Composer Pro of your very own, how exciting! You have until midnight Thursday night EST to leave a comment for your chance to win!

Congratulations to Kimberly Bowler for winning the Lensbaby and thanks to all of you for your comments!

thank you steve

I’m feeling so grateful for all that Steve Jobs has given to the world.

I have always been a mac girl. From the first ever mac computer my Dad brought home back in the early 80’s, the pink imac while I lived in Asia, then my first ibook, a couple of macbooks and now I write this on my imac, with cordless keyboard and mouse.

His creations, and inventions have shaped the way I live my life, communicate and transformed the way I work and I know many of you out there will have been influenced and inspired by this visionary.

I watched his Stanford talk again yesterday, (if you haven’t seen it, please go now and soak up the goodness) there are so many great messages to take away from it, but what I’m thinking about today is this….

“Love what you do” – Steve Jobs

We are so lucky to have creativity and photography in our lives, let’s celebrate this and share here what you’ve captured recently.

behind the scenes story

September 16, 2011 By Xanthe Berkeley

It’s often the details that draw me in. The “behind the scenes” story, the non-staged and the natural, as you find them subjects.

Here it’s the cross of the bridesmaid’s toes, the light shafting across and her pretty nail polish applied especially for the wedding, that tells me the story of that day.

Do you seek out the details? Look for the behind the scenes moments? Please share them today. They tell a different story, and I kinda like it.

We giving away one $100 Paper Coterie gift card EVERY SINGLE DAY of September to one of YOU! All you have to do is share a comment each day before midnight EST for your chance to win that day’s random drawing. Be sure to leave links to your story shots.

How are your adventures going?. Have you been anywhere or experienced anything new?….

first journeys,
boat trips,
new love,
the perfect view,
splashing around,
or a busy day.

Share your adventures to new places or doing new activites here today….

everyday things

August 5, 2011 By Xanthe Berkeley

It’s the beautiful everyday things that make me pick my camera.

I was shopping and these peaches caught my eye: the colour, the smell, the texture and the way they are piled on top of each other.

There is an everyday life of simple ordinary things all around us, what have you seen lately?.

Please share and let’s bask in their simple gorgeousness!

windows

July 15, 2011 By Xanthe Berkeley

“All the windows of my heart I open to the day” – John Greenleaf Whittler

There is something enchanting about a photo of a window or the view through it.

A story begins to unfold…. it’s a slice of life.

We’d love to see your view today….
