autumn in Paris

October 11, 2009 By Irene Nam

I don’t like autumn as much as I enjoy the other seasons of the year. And yet it recently dawned on me that stories unfold and lessons are better learned during those shorter days when a sore throat forces me to slow down, when I find delightful comfort in small, simple things, and crisp leaves crunch under my feet as I walk my sons to school in the morning.

Today, please show us. What does fall look like in your city? And tell us, what does inspire you about autumn?

Here’s a view of my world taken just yesterday.

Autumn makes me feel reflective and quiet which leads to a feeling of gratitude which in turn leaves me feeling energized and ready for new beginnings. It’s my favorite time of the year.

beautiful! fun to see what it looks like there. a lot what it looks like here, actually.

fall is actually my favorite season, but for some reason this year, i have not been as excited about it as i usually am. i think perhaps it is because it is so much colder than usual in chicago for this time of year.

i took these shots a few days before fall was officially here, but its effects were already visible.

i took several shots yesterday on a nature walk that would have been perfect for this post, but i have not uploaded them yet. hopefully i’ll get into it again like i used to–autumn, that is.

Hi – I agree with your comment about how these months seem to make us slow down, spend more time in our homes, and you can’t beat the natural fireworks that are going off in the trees.

I created a fall collage recently to remind what I’m focusing on…

Thanks for sharing! Love seeing those gorgeous leaves – not a common sight in my part of the world.

I live in New England, where we take Fall seriously – we even have a name for the activity of driving around looking at foliage, "leaf-peeping." This photo is from last year, the leaves are not quite this colorful yet this year, but they will get there soon!

Yesterday I wen through my external harddrive to clear some space and found a couple of Fake TTV’s i took around this time last year. I’d been keeping them to myself until now, you’re more than welcome to have a look at Slottsparken, Malmö, Sweden (the king’s park in Malmö, Sweden) in October.

The colours, the tone of light, the air.. it’s a natural high!

You’ll find the images on my blog and some additional on my flickr:

In San Diego we don’t have many season changes, but I can always tell when fall hits because we get a lovely breeze.

Hi, ya. I realize I’m in the company of great photoraphers here. So, I make no claims about my work here, but it is fall and it’s captured in Nashville (Tennessee) & our fabulous Radnor Lake:

I am a Kindergarten teacher, so fall for me is about a group of children who are completely enraptured in the approach of Halloween. They talk/write/draw about little other than the costumes they’ll soon get to wear. So fall always has an especially whimsical feeling in my world- here’s a shot I took last fall which I think captures a bit of that whimsy.

I’m still waiting for all the colors. We have a few bright fall colors popping up in our neighborhood, but soon, the trees will all be changing and fall will finally look its best.

Autumn is my favorite time of year except for I know what’s to follow. I guess I’m drawn to all the color. I must soak it all in as quickly as I can because soon there will be a cold white blank of snow over my world 🙁

Fall is just starting to arrive here in Virginia. The changing colors and brisk fall air are what I enjoy about this season. And relaxing with a nice hot cup of coffee on a cool morning. Here are some of the early fall snippets I captured just yesterday:

I was so happy to escape the house and try to capture some of the fall colors today — you inspired me! Here the trees seem to be getting close to their peak. I wanted to capture the amazing little mountains in our town, but got distracted by this barn I stumbled upon.

Almost uncanny coincidence in this entry since just this past weekend, I captured a few images of Fall in Wisconsin….loving "expired" milkweed pods, dramatic afternoon skies and bare trees that appear to be in hibernation until Spring approaches with new life.

Loving the Fall and the visits to the pumpkin patch with the kids, walks in the park just to see the beautiful leaves. This is a time of year that brings us back to our families. Cozying up with the ones we love. That’s why it’s such a special time of year for me.

I’ve posted a few entries to my blog about this wonderful Fall. Enjoy!

fall: a time of back to school shopping, rich autumn light, warm sweaters, snuggling a little longer in bed in the mornings, the collective gentle sigh of leaves falling from trees…

i absolutely love autumn – always have. i love the gently falling leaves, the color of the world around me – the bright blue sky, the reds oranges and yellows of the changing leaves, the smell of a wood fire burning, the sound of crunching leaves, the sound of someone splitting wood, on and on – i love it.
