I don’t like autumn as much as I enjoy the other seasons of the year. And yet it recently dawned on me that stories unfold and lessons are better learned during those shorter days when a sore throat forces me to slow down, when I find delightful comfort in small, simple things, and crisp leaves crunch under my feet as I walk my sons to school in the morning.

Autumn makes me feel reflective and quiet which leads to a feeling of gratitude which in turn leaves me feeling energized and ready for new beginnings. It’s my favorite time of the year.

fall is actually my favorite season, but for some reason this year, i have not been as excited about it as i usually am. i think perhaps it is because it is so much colder than usual in chicago for this time of year.

Hi – I agree with your comment about how these months seem to make us slow down, spend more time in our homes, and you can’t beat the natural fireworks that are going off in the trees.

I live in New England, where we take Fall seriously – we even have a name for the activity of driving around looking at foliage, "leaf-peeping." This photo is from last year, the leaves are not quite this colorful yet this year, but they will get there soon!

I am a Kindergarten teacher, so fall for me is about a group of children who are completely enraptured in the approach of Halloween. They talk/write/draw about little other than the costumes they’ll soon get to wear. So fall always has an especially whimsical feeling in my world- here’s a shot I took last fall which I think captures a bit of that whimsy.

Almost uncanny coincidence in this entry since just this past weekend, I captured a few images of Fall in Wisconsin….loving "expired" milkweed pods, dramatic afternoon skies and bare trees that appear to be in hibernation until Spring approaches with new life.

Loving the Fall and the visits to the pumpkin patch with the kids, walks in the park just to see the beautiful leaves. This is a time of year that brings us back to our families. Cozying up with the ones we love. That’s why it’s such a special time of year for me.

i absolutely love autumn – always have. i love the gently falling leaves, the color of the world around me – the bright blue sky, the reds oranges and yellows of the changing leaves, the smell of a wood fire burning, the sound of crunching leaves, the sound of someone splitting wood, on and on – i love it.
