My favorite antidote to months of racing through the demands and commitments of daily living. An irresistible invitation to slow down, let in a little joy and savor a better pace of life. And probably my favorite thing about summer. I can’t really explain what it is about that vast expanse of sand, sea and sky that helps me re-discover that feeling of inner abundance and brings me back to a place of peace and calm. I can let my cameras sit on a shelf and forget about them for weeks, when presented with the opportunity to spend time at the beach I will always pack as many as I can, giddy with anticipation and excitement.

I rose by 4.30 this morning to capture the sunrise on one of my favorite places on earth, a beach filled with sand, pebbles and boulders. The sand and boulders were left alone this time as I concentrated on the sunrise and two beautiful lighthouses that always bring peace to my mind when I lay eyes on them: http://maketakephoto.com/blog/2011/7/31/sunrise-at-509-am.html
To me, this really was the beauty of the ocean and peace of mind that revealed itself once again.
We were lucky to have grown up close to the beach; now as adults living further away it's a destination never taken for granted.

I took this shot from a tourbus on my way to a horseback riding expedition in Cozumel. Even though I didn't linger for long, I always loved this shot because of the juxtaposition of the bright colors against the ocean and sand.
