Before You Fly

May 6, 2009 By Jen Lemen

nest

Before you fly, I’m learning, you have to have a nest.  I’ve always had trouble patching together a safe place, prefering instead to stay aflight, above the fray.  This time, however, I’ll have to land before I take off.  I’ll have to find my own circle of quiet where the truth sits like a robin’s blue egg waiting for a warm place to hatch, waiting for the hope of a new life to be born.

Show us your nest today–that cozy corner of your house, your home, your soul where you understand everything’s going to be so all right, no matter where you fly, no matter where you soar.

Hmmm… My nest is my nook. The kitchen nook. I love that place. So many stories, laughs and tears are shared there all the time. It’s a place of merry shopping, eating, drinking, reading, writing, kissing and chatting. Hmmm. Thanks for this post. I love the world ‘nest’ these days…. here is my nook: http://www.gypsygirlsguide.com/2009/04/reflections_from_the_kitchen_n.html

I love those little bulbs in that nest – such a perfect picture of them.

I’m so grounded in my nest sometimes it’s hard for me to fly. My safe place is my family, home and nature.

I hope you don’t mind but I’m linking these photos of my kitchen remodel, where I spend all of my time, where I am right now. It is definitely the place I love the most in my home. Most of these photos were professionally done, but you can also see my some of my handiwork.

The morning sun streams in through this window, and I love to sit here with a book and a cup of tea. Our little red house, built by my father and lovingly furnished by my mother, was my childhood home and thus, literally, my nest. 🙂

i have moved a lot. as a child, and now in my adulthood. home to me is not a place, but rather a feeling. where i am centered. where my heart feels safe. so today my home is in my children. they center me, keep me safe, they are home.

I am not sure how long I will be living in this house. But we built it on top of an old house we bought. It was our first project together as a family. I love it.
I need a nest right now. So badly.

My nest…interesting. I am in a coma, of sorts, tonight, so don’t have anything to share other than my thoughts. I love the photo. I love the web site. I love thinking about my "nest" – but can’t come up with a clear visual. I don’t think I’m done building it yet!

maybe it’s because i’ve moved around a lot. maybe it’s because i still don’t have that sense of belonging in my current abode. maybe it’s because i know that i have yet to find my ‘true home’… but i don’t have a place that i can relate to as my special place, my nest.
one thing i do know, however, is that when i am overwhelmed, i get down on the ground, or on the floor… and, there, i can breathe and feel, almost instantly, so much better. during my labours, i lay on the floor. stretching and contracting there just felt like the natural place to be, for me.
