As the end of the year approaches, how about going through your photos to select your best shot(s) of 2009? I think we can learn a lot just by looking at our collections of images, noticing what works, what catches our eye and what could be improved.
I chose the two photos above because they represent how far I’ve come as a photographer this year. They remind me of how much I enjoy the entire process and how rewarding it is, when it all comes together: scouting, styling, hair, make-up, lighting, modelling, shooting, post. I also like that I can see myself in the bohemian style, in the warm lighting and in the yummy saturated colors. All around, these images just inspire me to keep believing, shooting, learning, improving…
So, here is what I’d like to propose: Go through your folders, make a gallery of your favorite shots, print some pictures if you will, spread them out, put them up on a wall. Whatever your selection process is, find that photo that jumps out as your favorite. It may be a shot that you are technically proud of, a shot that captures a special moment, or simply a shot that mysteriously makes your heart skip for a second.
Flickr is hosting a group pool with the best shots of 2009. It might be fun to join in and upload yours.
We are ready! Show us your best shot(s) of 2009.
beautiful work alex. i think choosing ‘your best shot’ to represent your growth as a photographer is a great way to choose. i know when i picked this shot here…http://www.flickr.com/photos/maypapers/4192113730/ …that it’s not only because I really love this image, it is a symbol somehow of the year. i’ve tried to put it into words but it’s intangible. it will always represent 09 for me.
i hope everyone chooses a shot and shares it here and submits it in the flickr pool Your Best Shot 09.
thanks for this post Alex.
Here’s my favorite for the year…http://www.flickr.com/photos/mackvilleroad/3727039655/in/set-72157606696482659/
One of my biggest frustrations/faults is an inability to look objectively at my own photos. If I look too long I see problems with every photo even when I’m happy with them…it doesn’t help that my aesthetic doesn’t seem to fall into the vein of contemporary digital photography so it is hard for me to even know what would be considered "best" by any measure except my own satisfaction. I am trying though to not be the hyper critical creature that I am drawn to being and in that spirit here is one photo that brought a smile to my face the minute I loaded it this year.

This is tough! I started going through my folders and realized that this could take all day! So I picked my favorite blog entry from this year. The pictures aren’t technically perfect (which is something I’m very hard on myself for) but they really do capture my nephew in some real moments and show his sweet personality. He is by far my favorite subject. I wish he lived closer!

2009 was the year I started shooting with a Holga. This double exposure shot from a visit to Goblin Valley is probably my favorite from the year.

i bought a point and shoot camera on sale this past january, and two weeks later I took this photo. when i saw it i knew i wanted to photograph everything, and learn as much as i could about the art and craft of photography. i got my first dslr this summer, and i’ve spent a blissful year of discovery. happy 2010, everyone, and thanks for providing a wonderful supportive community.

It’s so hard to pick, but I think this image of a water buffalo in Vietnam might just be my favorite from this year.

I love these! I saw them yesterday at Etsy. I love both the shots and the lovely clothing.
Finally got around to browsing through the year in photos — a fantastic exercise! I’m grateful for Shutter Sisters and the inspiration and support you all offer!
