Finding Bliss

January 10, 2012 By Chris Sneddon

It’s just over a week into the new year and even though I promised myself that I will be more present and remember to breathe, I’m finding it a little difficult to do right now.  I also think it’s because it’s January, my least favorite month of the year.  That sweet little square tile above (an awesome gift from the fabulous Leslie Adams) sits on my desk where I see it everyday and this week it’s been taunting me.  Create Your Bliss. What the heck does that mean?!  How do I create bliss when my life is so hectic right now??  And then I realized, bliss can be anything I want it to be.  Tomorrow, my house will be mine again.  After three weeks at home for the holidays, my husband goes back to work and my kids are officially back in school.  Tomorrow morning, my bliss will be a cup of coffee with my favorite creamer in my favorite cup while wearing my favorite slippers in a blissfully quiet house.  I now know that creating my bliss doesn’t have to big or showy or dramatic.  It can be as simple as a cup of coffee.  Creating my bliss isn’t so difficult afterall, and that’s a good thing.

Today, inspire us. Share with us how you create your bliss.

Aww Chris! Enjoy your bliss at your sanctuary… I love the question you posed.

Twinkling, soft lights make for my own bliss. A photo from my 365 project: http://measuringlifeinphotographs.tumblr.com/#15353587403

I love this! I've had a really rough few months, and I think it was starting to show… for Christmas I received several gift certificates to local spas. I intend to treat myself at least once per quarter… I went to my first last week, and it was such a good way to completely unplug and let go.

I adore hiking and now my toddler son is old enough to join me! It is blissful exploring the redwood forest of Northern California with him. And we found hundreds upon hundreds of wintering ladybugs! (I know some of the images turned out too blurred as I struggled to avoid the flash. I'm learning!)

Love that tile and your photo of it!!! Bliss for me is as simple as shooting at an antique store with a new lens that I got for Christmas. Pure joy. Pure bliss!

Going out for a cappuccino every once in a while is my bliss. My favorite coffee shop creates art in the foam, which always brings a smile to my face.

I think a lot of us can relate to this post as we search for our routine again after the busyness of the holidays and giving to others. what a beautiful tile, too!

Bliss comes for me from nightly walks with my family, walking our dog. with my iPhone in my back pocket, I ask my daughter if she'll jump as I'm working on a series. she so eagerly agrees and i capture this moment, which to me, feels like and i will remember, as bliss:

Bliss comes in many forms – sometimes it comes in a glass on a sunny afternoon when the company is particularly special.

here is my moment, totally inspired by you Chris… the sun was practically filling my kitchen, my leftover carrot cake sitting there. i cut myself a slice and stood right there in the sun and ate it.

awww nothing like a quiet, peaceful home. I miss my hubbie after he went back to work but it's nice to have time to myself.

I find bliss by going outdoors and love to be around trees particularly:

So so true we can create our own bliss with the simple things we do, so easy to get caught up in the whirl wind that our life sometimes become………..a coffee.. a book.. music.. good company…bliss can be so simple.
Thanks for the words need a little reminder to breathe every now and then!!
