full circle

July 25, 2010 By Tracey Clark

I know I’m not the only one drawn to circles. I actually believe there is something within us, something Universal, even inherent that makes it so. Simply said, the shape carries a kind of magic.

Looking for some cirlce symbolism I found this list. It was exactly as I had suspected. A circle symbolizes so many amazing things. Here are, some circle symbol meaning keywords to contemplate:

  • Inclusion
  • Wholeness
  • Focus
  • Unity
  • Nurturing
  • Cycles
  • Initiation
  • Everything
  • Perfection
  • Womb
  • Centering
  • Revolution
  • Infinity
  • Mobility
  • Completion

Share with us something that drew your own attention full-circle.

Love what you’ve written here – Tracey – and all that it symbolizes and means.

Circles always catch my eye! I love geometric shapes, but something about the circle’s smoothness, inclusiveness, and never-ending line always catches my attention.

Wow. Wonderful post and list. I was conscious of my attraction for geometric shapes but, going through my archives, was truly surprised at the abundance of circles I found there.

it was the circular shape of the baptismal font that caught my eye. circle, holy water, a new beginning, a rebirth.

oh, it’s neat to hear others are drawn to circles. i guess i never really thought i was the only one, but i’ve never really heard of anyone else who is so fascinated by them like i am.

i have them in design motifs all over my house… lamps, wall hangings, mirrors, towels, throw pillows. even a few of my favorite pairs of earrings are circles {like donut or ring shaped}. and then there is my favorite movie… "signs". there are circles all throughout that movie, and i love it!

anyway, i’ve heard that men are more drawn toward triangular shapes, and women are more drawn toward circular shapes. not sure how true that is, but if so, i guess that partly explains my fascination with them.

here is a metal wall hanging that i have in my window sill all year. i like the pattern it creates on the view out our living room window, and how it breaks up the view interestingly. this picture is not the best, but you get the idea.

i know i’ve taken better pictures of it in the past, but i can’t find them quickly.

My little brother is one of my most favorite people in the world. He is an incredible athlete, and his first word ever was "Ball." He’s a teenager now, and taller and stronger than me, but sometimes in my mind he’s still a little kid, buying bouncy balls out of vending machines and playing with them in the aisles of Walmart. Anyway, here’s a favorite circle of mine…One of his vending machine bouncy balls sitting in his little concrete handprint, done years ago.

And another…I just cannot resist the circle brim of a cup of hot chocolate while puzzling for hours.

In Jewish tradition wedding bands must be unbroken circles with no holes or other breaks. The continuity of the circle represents hope for an everlasting union. I don’t have an image to share, but now you’ve got me thinking…

Oh how beautiful. I find it quite serendipitous that I came to this post…I have been painting almost nothing but spirals recently – circles moving into and out of themselves!

What a cool post. I am always fascinated by the symbolism in shapes and colors and other "everyday" things.

This is from a a few weeks ago, but this circle-shaped sign stopped me: http://www.flickr.com/photos/superdewa/4655171236/

    The message made me think.

I never thought about the reason before… I might give it a thought now!
