gathering leaves

October 1, 2012 By shutter sisters

 Spades take up leaves

No better than spoons,

And bags full of leaves

Are light as balloons.

I make a great noise

Of rustling all day

Like rabbit and deer

Running away.

But the mountains I raise

Elude my embrace,

Flowing over my arms

And into my face.

I may load and unload

Again and again

Till I fill the whole shed,

And what have I then?

Next to nothing for weight,

And since they grew duller

From contact with earth,

Next to nothing for color.

Next to nothing for use.

But a crop is a crop,

And who’s to say where

The harvest shall stop?”

-Robert Frost

Tis the season when everything changes. When leaves change from green to gold and trees move slowly from full to barren. When the air grows cool and crisp and days get shorter. It’s the season where routine begins to take hold and harvest begins.

Share today the bounty of the season by way of leaves. Each holds it’s own unique beauty. In shape, in color, in size, in stage of life; just as it is with each one of us. Let’s celebrate the glorious leaf today, with all of it’s inspiring intricacies.

We are excited to begin yet another month of photo prompts. Won’t you play along with us? All you need to do is shoot and share and tag your shots #shuttersisters for all to enjoy! I saw this leaf nestling in one of the sculptures in the Barbara Hepworth sculpture garden in St Ives Cornwall.
