gearing up for spring

March 14, 2009 By Paige Balcer

The grass is still brown and the trees are not budding yet. But there’s a buzz in the air. Easter bunnies and bright, colorful scarves and boots are appearing at every turn. Spring is coming and there’s no turning back! Not only is spring the a great time for shopping, it’s one of the best times for photography. As the color starts coming back and the days get longer I always feel a renewed sense of inspiration.

I want to see how spring is creeping into your lives. Leave us a link and show us your “early” spring photos.

Thus far we’ve had only one day that I’d consider to be ‘spring’ like. These two children were playing in their brightly colored Sunday Best:

Not much has changed since this post:
    http://aliandsethinthecity.blogspot.com/2009/02/im-feeling-hopeful-green.html

I do see the trees coming closer and closer to spring. I’m very, very excited for the moment it does become spring because our street seems to be lined with flowering trees. And I cannot wait for my first spring in NYC! This weekend, while I’m out, I’ll try to find an updated spring picture and post it here: http://aliandsethinthecity.blogspot.com/

ah spring…. it’s creeping in alright (slowly) around here. We noticed it especially during our last winter pick up at our CSA farm this week. The grass & fields are still covered in ice and snow but under the greenhouse cover greens were growing and in the barn new life has already been born.

A couple of weeks ago, I decided I couldn’t wait for spring any more and took matters into my own hands – I bought a couple of early spring plants on sale at the grocery store that week! And then I couldn’t resist taking a whole bunch of photos of them once I got home – here are my two favorite shots:

Here’s one of the first small signs I found in my garden making me realize that, yes, spring IS on it’s way!
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/anneliesleeuw/3356400944/
Everything here still seems to be suspended forever in dull, leafless, brown inertia but that’s just the exterior. On the inside, things are beginning to move again, in anticipation of longer days, warmth and sunshine.
This is a small new leaf of Lady’s Mantle, secretly unfolding below the dried out mess that is left of last year’s foliage.
