Harvesting

May 6, 2010 By Alex Desouza

I recently read a quote by Hundertwasser that said “Painting is to dream. When the dream
is over, I don t remember anything I dreamed about. The painting, however, remains. It is the harvest of my dream.”

I thought that was a perfect quote for our Photography as well. On the daily basis, we pay attention to our surroundings, we enearth feelings, we reap best moments, and we find a way to make our vision tangible, lasting… We indeed work on the harvesting of our dreams.

I just love that as we’re gathering bits and pieces of our lives, we are actually assembling something really powerful that will remain. It is so exciting for me to think that someday when we are long gone, our work may still live, feeding the inspiration of others, and consequently, continuing to produce more and more crops of nourishing Art in this world.

Now, show us: What sorts of beautiful images have you been harvesting lately?

………..

And because it’s Giveaway May and we’re taking about harvesting dreams here, we’ve got an amazing giveaway:

Artist, Author, and Possibilitarian Kelly Rae Roberts is giving one lucky reader/commenter a spot in her upcoming e-course, Flying Lessons: Tips + Tricks To Help Your Creative Business Soar. Now is the time for making those creative business dreams real and this e-course will give you all the inspiration, information, and resources to take flight. Truly.

Just leave a comment here bettween now and Sat. 5/8 at midnight PST for your chance to win a spot in Kelly Rae’s e-course. It gives us butterflies just thinking about it!

………..

Congratulations to Leanne, the winner of Flying Lessons. YAY!

I like the idea of harvesting dreams… I see this image as the paying attention to the moment though.

I’ve been following the two people I love most this week making and saving memories for a photo book of my daughter’s first visit to Cornwall. I’ll be sharing more of the " harvest " online in the days to come as well.

My photographs are some of my most prized possesions, I love when photographs seem to tell a story just from looking at it, and I think that is what inspires me to "Harvest" those stories. There is something that draws me to help capture the story for others as well, it brings me so much joy to be able to share it with others!

I would be thrilled to have a chance at Kelly Rae’s e-course!! Thanks for inspiring me to go "Harvest" some more stories!!

Harvesting a dream – I love how you’ve said that. I’d also like to think of photography as ‘manifesting’ those dreams:

    Good Day Shutter Sisters,

I am currently taking as many spring pictures as I can to remember all the glorious colors and creatures before they go into hiding from the Texas heat. Thanks to the Picture Spring course, I have quite a "harvest" of photos! I am now anxiously awaiting the beginning of the Mondo Beyondo course I signed up for and have been sifting thru my new Keri Smith book "How to be an Explorer of the World." Kelly Rae Robert’s e-course would be the perfect companion!!

Thank you Shutter Sisters for putting together such a wonderful collection of "experiences" that have helped guide me as I close the door on "city life" and start a new adventure living my "country life."

    My harvest: http://www.sanderwood.com

    Sincerely,

    May 6, 2010 at 7:27 pm

I agree "Painting is to dream", when I create or paint, it is the dream completed. I dream, think, imagine, pray, and comtemplate what will go on the canvas. If it is going to someone personally, I will make it personal. Seeking items and painting special things for that person. For example, I have done several for my granddaughter and incorporated several things in her colloge that mean something to her. She’s 4. I took her birthday invitation and included it on the colloge and painted a little girl in pigtails all in pinks. She loves "Fancy Nancy" so that was the theme. It’s little things like that, that I try to do to personalize my art. I do not do art for profit, just for pleasure and if it ministers to others, then it is worth it. I actually got started with my art by buying Kelly’s book and just going with the directions in the book. So you could say I am self taught with the help of Kelly’s book. I would love to take her course. Vicki Taylor

I recently came across Kelly Rae when I opened and early birthday gift from my friend. It was a 8 x 8 canvas of "Unbroken Wings" and a magnet of "believe in possibility" I seriously freaked!!! I recently have been photographing my grandmother and her home that has been burnt down since 2001. It still stands and everything that was in the fire still remains. That is one of the main reasons I paintโ€ฆ.to leave a beautiful mark on the world long after I am gone (and because I just canโ€™t not paint!). Thanks for hosting this giveaway. If I were lucky enough to be the winner I am sure Kellyโ€™s course would help me share those beautiful marks with more people.

Kelly Rae, like Shutter Sisters, is one of those wonderful "secrets" I found when first exploring blogland, and you both have continued to be great inspirations and idols to me!!!! Thanks so much, shutter sisters, for the opportunity to win!!!!!

My fingers, toes, arms and legs will be crossed until the winner is announced! Which, actually, is kind making it hard to get anything done! But, it’s worth it!!!! ; )

I have just discovered Kelly Rae’s blog and website and am sooooo glad that I did! Kelly Rae is an absolute inspiration to me. I love art and painting but do not have the confidence to make it my career. I own and operate a farm tourism business which I like doing but would love it more if I could combine it with my love for art and open asmall gallery and cafe at our farm also. I really need Kelly to give me some "flying lessons" so that I can fly away from reality for just a little while and pursue my passion and dream! Please Kelly, help me to fly!!!

What a wonderful way of thinking of the images we capture with our camera! I am always loathe to delete even one because even though it may not seem important to someone else…at the very moment it was ‘harvested’ I WAS the ONLY one to witness it in that way. Tomorrow I will be harvesting the memories of my daughter’s BFF as she walks down the aisle. All of the unimportant stuff… like the bride having her hair done, nails polished, and then getting dressed…is being captured by me and no one else…I am truly blessed!

Flying Lessons….I "happened" onto Kelly’s blog and read about her e-course. Gave up a haircut this month to run and get her book. I had looked longingly at this book many times – not knowing her yet ๐Ÿ˜‰ When I realized it was HER and that this was HER book – click click. I’ve been sitting on the runway tooo long, and in need of some flying lessons for sure. just sayin’ would be nice to tell this story after I’m in the air ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks for giving me a chance to win!!

I’m just loving the phrase ‘harvesting dreams’ it’s conjuring up a kalideoscope of images, swirling, intangible, elusive, hoping that they take more shape and form and transmit through my fingers to the canvas, thanks for this post

When you say yes to the Universe, show me the possibilities, be ready and willing to take the offerings, because I believe the Universe is already looking for us. When I stumbled upon Kelly Rae Roberts, I was asking for the possibilities, but I didn’t just get Kelly, I got so much more. I found a whole community of souls searching and reaching for the same possibilities and I am humbled and inspired. Like the sea glass I harvest from the ocean, to create things of beauty, I feel like I have just harvested hearts from around the world. What a gift!

I am harvesting by trying to take a daily photo to document the next year of my life. It’s going to involve a lot of change, including moving back halfway across the world) and a complete career change. I am hoping to grow my handmade jewelry business and expand into art. It’s going to be an interesting year…

I love the way the woman is looking at the camera in the above photograph. She is unashamed, raw, she has a ‘this is who I am’ look in her eyes. Although her life may not seem very expansive, she is. I love the idea of leaving little parts of ourselves behind through our creative expressions. I am always snapping away on my camera, here is one of my latest special moments captured:

I love Kelly Rae Roberts, she has (unknowingly) been a great inspiration to me. I love the way she shares so much and also givers out great links to other amazing people! I thought the competition ran until Sunday, but I must have mis-read… I really hope I’m not too late to be part of the competition.
