Nature’s gifts never cease to delight and inspire me. I’m often drawn to the smallest, most delicate of objects in my home, on the street, out and about. If something calls out to be noticed I rarely nod and just forget it. Inexorably guided by my passion to create photographs, I have to stop everything I am doing and get a camera.

I discovered this lone leaf the other morning looking like it had been meticulously placed there on the lid of our trash can just for me. As I was in the midst of emptying the garbage it caught my eye, still bleary with the morning, as it seemed to be boasting its juxtaposition of dainty ruffles and crooked lines. Accentuated by the soft early morning light (a contrast against the dark slick surface ) it stopped my in my tracks. I stood there in wonder…in the street…in my pajamas. And then of course, I got a camera.

How is it that no matter how many leaves, pods or blossoms I study, I am continually amazed at how striking and inimitable each one is? And then I notice the way each photographer can uniquely capture them in a photograph and I am forever charmed by their beauty.

Oh yes, I know that feeling of stopping in your tracks and racing to get the camera. Beautiful gifts like your leaf sit most everywhere. I feel a powerful sense of responsibility to acknowledge, capture and share. Photography has become my method of encouraging people to open their eyes and soak in the full beauty that life has to offer.

Thank you, ladies, for this space.

You always find the most beautiful art there is in nature. Stopping to grab your camera is a must...for this beauty needs to be captured in time and shared with others.

I'm very excited about this site and now I am honored to have had one of favorite photos chosen to be shown. Thank you!

So true. Certain things just call to you to be photographed. But not everyone can make a leaf on a trash can beautiful!

that is beautiful tracey. I would have never known it was a garbage can lid. But that makes it even better.

what? you don't carry your camera with you when you put the trash out in the morning? you don't have it around your pajama clad neck at all times??? :) lovely, photo, sis. i spent the morning snapping pictures of "trash" that struck me as beauty all over my lovely city. thanks for the inspiration. i can't believe this will be happening almost EVERYDAY! yay us!

i love the stories behind the photographs. it just makes me smile knowing that this was on the lid of the garbage can. now the picture is complete to me. photographs freeze time and emotion for me... that morning you took the trash out will always be with you: the barefeet, the weather, the color of pajamas. isn't it amazing how photography takes us each to our own little world? and sometimes they brush up against one anothers. it's beautiful.

What a lucky leaf to have been noticed and captured by you. I just love the color and details. It's amazing how much beauty there really is in the world if we'd only take the time to look. Thanks for the reminder, Tracey!
