Superhero Photo Challenge: Self-timer self-portrait

020208_600.jpg

A few weeks ago, I was lamenting to my husband that I wasn't getting great images from my Canon Elph SD1000. "It's still a great camera," I said, "totally portable and good for snaps and short video. I just wish I could take beautiful images with it."

Just a few minutes later I had an inspiration. I set the camera on the ground, set the self-timer (for the first time since I've owned it) and let her rip. This is what I captured, and I love the way it came out, especially with the blur at the bottom. I became a little obsessed after that and shot this way for the rest of the day. It is so much fun people!

This week's photo challenge is to try it out with your camera. Set the self-timer, set the camera on the ground, click the shutter and get in front of the lens. Then post the results in the comments. Looking forward to seeing your shots!

i was playing around with a new light meter i just got and did this self portrait with the timer. i love how shots get framed when my eye isn't planning out every detail behind the lens.

I've been having the same trouble with my Canon Elph SD1000! I was so psyched when I got it, but it's trickier to get good shots out of it. It's light as air, though. Can't even feel it in my pocket. I guess that's a trade-off.

this was fun, thanks for the challenge andrea. as you can see, little one was fixed on the camera - it produces various animal sounds for some funtions. i do believe the "howling wolf" that signals the timer is about to go off was a new one to her!

Fun (but tricky) challenge! After many attempts, these were the best I could do for tonight. I only ended up getting my toes in both photos, but my son's legs made it in both photos. Thanks for the creative inspiration!

I love your photo Andrea! Here's mine--and I love it! My husband said it tells all about me at the moment: married (ring), loving my new Holga, favorite new shirt and jeans.

This was perfect for me. I've been using the self-timer and the floor since I try not to use the horrible built-in flash for most pictures. And I have had a lot of focus issues (or lack there of) with the Casio camera.

I REALLY like what you came up with especially the pop of red & orange in the shoes and up in the jacket.

So I had a go at it this evening.
