What Dreams May Come

06302008_600.jpg

I rarely remember my dreams.  But the other night I do remember that I dreamed I was on a boat, a huge cruise type boat.  The captain was yelling at everyone to grab an oar because we needed to row home.  The only thing that I could find was a roll of toilet paper.  But the captain kept yelling, "Row!"  Then I woke up.  Wish I knew what it meant because they say your dreams have meanings.  Like, if you dream you are being chased it means that you are feeling threatened by someone or some emotion.  I checked my cabinets, I have plenty of toilet paper.

Photos can represent dreams in so many ways.  By the subject, the composition, the post processing.  An image can be surreal or ethereal, and therefore be dream like.  I love images that take me away, make me wonder what's going on in that world.  I want to put my ear to the picture and hear the sounds.  What dreamy images do you have or can you create?  Do you remember your dreams and can you represent one in a photo?  Or maybe someone is dreaming.  Come on, spill the dreams here.

my three year old son, however, woke up first thing this morning and explained how he cooked bacon and eggs and cheese for breakfast all by himself in his dream, and during his dream i laid in bed waiting for breakfast to be served.

I have narcolepsy so I have very vivid memorable dreams--and not always welcome!

But my favorite kind are the ever elusive flying dreams. Here's one that could be flying if you didn't know better!

I have really, really weird dreams. All the time.

I could totally be having a dream with this little guy in it. He's trying to tell me something, but I'm not sure what it is.
Then I wake up and say, "what the hell?!"

My dreams often feel like this - like you can see what it is and what's going on, but not really.

Melody (a sister for sure), I had to smile at the TP dream. Love it. And your photo does evoke a dreamy mood.

I dream in color...always...

Hi Melody! Thanks for the post to reflect on our dreams. I have vivid, realistic dreams and usually I hope they never come true!

Here's a shot I took a few hours ago before I even read this post. It's so dreamy!

Talking about dreams, the one pic that I can relate to is this one taken playfully by my then 5-year-old son..it was actually a picture of me being angry. I think he snapped it too fast and it resulted in this. When I made it black and white and cropped the face area..it looks like some image from a dream. That's the image I always see in my dreams..blur, black and white..and inconsistent.

A foggy sunrise in my little wood.Sigh.There is always a sense of something sleepy and dreamy when the light is that golden and the focus is so soft. I love that ethereal quality to early morning light.

When I was a kid I became afraid of going to sleep... I'd close my eyes and have 'visions' of what nightmares were waiting for me.

The nightmares weren't your typical guy chasing you, trapped, scary monsters and ghosts... They probably wouldn't even be scary if you really looked at the picture-but I found out later in life, through some of my first panic attacks, that those reoccurring nightmares actually were images of how I felt-during a panic attack.

So my picture represents that. all the glow, and suddenly the enveloping darkness that I felt trapped inside and gave me a fear of dreams.
(I don't have the same nightmare any more-after I slept with a dream catcher above the bed-it vanished...)

Often I dream of houses, especially houses with many rooms. And I love old houses because they seem to whisper all the dreams that once lived in them:

I don't think that dream is too wierd, but I've had some doosey's myself. I prefer the flying dreams - love those. :)

This is probably my favorite ethereal/dreamlike picture that I have:

Oh yes, I know the feeling.

I just posted about Old and New, but the feel of one particular picture just makes me dream about a time that has passed.

I post-processed the picture and added some texture:

I think Lavender is kind of dreamy, certainly peaceful and calming. And the smell... ah, another delight to the senses.

I dream whole science fiction stories! Really creepy at time, with often amazing detail. If I was a better fiction writer I would note them down. I could not remember if I had posted anything dreamlike on my flickr stream and this is what I found:
