Superhero Photo Challenge: A self-portrait of your feet

If you haven't already discovered them, I can't recommend the Photojojo newsletter enough! It offers up tips, photo ideas and resources in a fun, unintimidating way. Their article on sharpening images totally changed my life. They did a piece recently on vacation photos with a twist, that included one of my personal faves: pics of your feet!

As I searched around for images to inspire you, I learned a thing or two about good feet photos!

1. Feet up against the sky is my all time favorite method. You can grab or friend or go solo.

2. Cool backgrounds for your feet always help.

3. Feet on the counter totally works too (who would've thunk?)

4. Putting your feet at the bottom of the frame, or leaving a lot of space has a cool effect.

5. Simple is always beautiful.

I look forward to hearing what you discover and what creative ways you take this challenge on. Up with feet! or down with feet! Your choice.

My greatest guilty foot pleasure is getting a spa pedicure, which I try to do once a year, usually right before the 4th of July. And since my feet are oft-seen on the 4th, as I (usually) tromp around on the tarps on the Esplanade for the entire day before the ...

ooh feet. lately one of my favourite ways take self portraits of my feet involves been a light-hunter in fancy shoes and seeking out the final rays of light of the evening as they stream between trees:

This reminds me of the time my family was at the Renaissance Festival and I let my son use my camera. I guess he was pressing the shutter and then immediately dropping the camera, because we ended up with a whole series of shots of his feet. I kept them all just to remember the day my son shot himself in the feet. ;)

We went to a small city in the Czech Republic a few weeks ago. It was during a holiday weekend and no food establishments were open, aside from McDonalds. So here we are in Europe, and we ate about four meals in a row at McDonalds because we had zero other options, literally.

Just wanted to explain why I took the following picture...

I love taking photos of my feet. People think they look funky because I have the whole `second toe longer than big toe` thing going on but I love them anyways. This isn't a photo of me barefoot but it's still my feet wrapped in pretty little shoes.

thats for the days that I HAVE to wear shoes...
but other than that, I'd rather run around barefoot... It's when I feel most comfortable, and myself. socks and shoes are just restriction.
Have to be free to run around in the grass and mud with my dancing feet.

this is not a recent photo, and the explanation will seem rather odd, i often test myself to gauge the weakness in my left side. nice colour on the toes though.

In my yoga class we always begin by firmly planting our feet so that our bodies are free to move as they need to. I love the idea of feet firmly planted in a moment so that our minds are free to fully enjoy it.

Here is a recent photo that seems to fit.

I don't particularly like my own feet, or anyone else's (of the adult type!--babyfeet--ROCK!!), so this self-portrait is a rarity for me.

I SO wanted to spend more time on this one but the weekend schedule just won't allow it. I stuck to the simple approach. My feet in my favorite pair of flipflops at my favorite spot in my house.

I didn't know that other people did this, too. I think one of the first shots I took with this camera was of my feet. This shot is of my feet and my daughter's hands. We did our nails all special for the 4th of July.

I took these two pics just last weekend during a whirlwind visit to my parents in New Brunswick. I don't think I'd ever immortalized my toes like this before, but I remembered seeing similar pics amongst the Shutter Sisters and figured... why not?

This post makes me smile. For many years, I never liked my feet at all but that all changed when I started tango dancing and I could see what my feet could do for me.

When I first got my camera, I started taking pictures of my feet and came up with a couple of shots that I really liked (and now I do it off and on):

I read your site all the time, but don't comment much. (sorry!!!) But I've really been trying to take on these photo challenges. They're fun and I am learning a lot, since I am just a new, aspiring photographer at this point. (still with a point and click...)
