don't go

Sigh. This is the part of the summer where I panic because it'll be over before I know it. I start wondering what summer activities I can cram into the remaining days. I know it will still be warm for a few months, but when the kids go back to school it just isn't summer anymore. And I don't even have kids! But I do have a husband who's a teacher, and in a couple of weeks he'll be welcoming his students back to school. And my nieces and nephews won't be as available to hang out as they have been. So I'm going to keep my camera clicking away while the grass is green, the corn is high and the evening light is golden.
Do you guys have any "end of summer" photos to share?

We're going to visit the grandparent in Nebraska. I'm looking forward to lots of pictures in wide open fields and pics of all the cousins playing!

A day spent at the waterfront with friends. I love the innocence of this photo, but I'm also melancholy, because it's probably one of the last day trips that we'll take together for a while since school starts soon.

Pomegranate soda - so refreshing!

The thought of summer ending is quite foreign to me, since its heat and humidity lasts into October where I live!
Bring on November! ;-)

For me, the sadness starts when I see the advertisements for the PA Renn Faire. It's a yearly tradition to spend a weekend at the Faire before we slip into the quieter, more studious days of Autumn and Winter. I'm looking forward to the trip this year which will provide another bunch of wonderful memory filled photos.

Your photos is wonderful!

My niece at what will probably be the last big family cookout we're able to arrange this summer...

I'm reliving our vacation and lamenting the fact the summer is almost over.

Summer being over became very apparent yesterday while spending the day with the kids at a water park:

Yep, summer is gone. But I love autumn too. This summer I had a great time with my family (esp my sister) at a resort.

I felt like that last year - it had been a wonderful summer with my family

but it was a wonderful autumn too...

Ack, don't say it! August is still too early to let go of summer. We homeschool so we ease ourselves out of summer sometime around the autumnal equinox, the same time as our favorite fall fair. But late summer in Maine is heralded every year by monarchs. They are most prolific in August and early Sept before they migrate to Mexico. My kiddos find the eggs and raise the larvae (they only eat milkweed) and then release them when they emerge as butterflies.

So, this is what "end of summer" looks like at our house:

My plan: wring each and every little bit of sweet summer-ness out of the month of August! That means corn on the cob, cookouts with friends, and the BEACH!

It's hard to believe it's already August! I can only image how much more faster time will fly when my kid is in school.

Here's a shot of our sweet sweet summer:

In this photo, my nephew, Casey is obviously shivering while standing in the fountain at the concert in the park on friday night. I live in the Sacramento Valley area of CA where it's HOT this time of year, so this photo gaves a brief taste of Fall http://www.flickr.com/photos/26029966@N02/2747853026/temperatures.

We have a few more weeks of summer here in southern California but for me, nothing says summer like a child wrapped up in a soft, fluffy towel after an early evening swim.

It's taken me a few days to get them posted (okay a week) but for me it's flip flops . . .
