self-talk

I have not stopped thinking about Meredith's post about our mantras. By the response it got I know I'm  not the only one who enjoyed it.

Words are powerful things. The words we use in our life to describe ourselves help create us. They not only can define who we are, they can also accentuate who we want to become. I read a recent post over at The Gypsy Girl's Guide that reminded me of something I once heard from Karen Maezen Miller, that the things we give our attention to are the things that grow, flourish and thrive. I certainly know this to be true with self-talk.

Today, I encourage you to be mindful of the language you use with yourself. Use your own inner dialogue to nurture, empower, encourage yourself. Whisper sweet nothings into your own ear. As my dear friend Myriam shared recently, "You are the one you've been waiting for." Indeed. We are.

So, go ahead, tell yourself the story of your own magnificence. The more you say it, the more it will be.

What are your favorite words of empowerment? I need a good dose of super-power today!

I actually printed this and taped it to my bathroom mirror, for me as well as everyone in this house.

I'm always amazed when blog posts pop up at the exact right moment and say what I need to hear. Thank you for this message. It reminded me to listen to my inner dialogue and ask myself if it is really serving me.

So. Today, my favorite word of empowerment is BREATHE.

You are strong!

(And coincidentally, I'm thinking of you when I think of these words!)

My words of empowerment are written every Tuesday when I remind myself that " I really can tell a good story! "

I have a post-it note on the "Today" marker of my day-timer that I wrote "Best Year Ever" on. A reminder that no matter what happens on a day-to-day basis, this is the best year of my life so far!

The empowering words sticking in my head right now is actually a sentence a close friend wrote at the end of a recent email (after discussing her nerve racking website launch):

"...it's just going to be what it is and then I'll have a glass of wine and move on to the next thing."

Yes! :)

I keep this quote accredited to Mary Wollstonecraft on my desk.

"The beginning is always today."

I say to this to myself quite often.

"You can do it."

It helps me get through my insecurities.

"COMPASSION FIRST."

Both for self and for others.

My husband knows how to practice this...I am learning.

And how do y'all know exactly what I need each day? ;-) Love love LOVE this blog.

As some said ... this comes at just the right moment for me. I wasn't hearing any words of empowerment today. Yesterday I was proud of finally making a big attempt at editing my photos with LR. Then I posted for feedback on some Flickr groups. Then I let myself feel rejected when I didn't get many comments. How high-school am I?

Thanks for giving me a reality check. While it is important to hear from others in order to grow, the most important voice in empowering me to reach my goals is my own. So tonight I'll be trying to whisper sweet nothings to myself while I do the ironing. Maybe I'll come up with a mantra ;-)

"Do not be sad that roses have thorns, rather, rejoice that thornbushes have roses"

I have that written above my desk at work so I always remember to try and be optimistic about life. As silly as it sounds, that really helps!

Oh, and also "Venting is for air-conditioning" to help me remember that airing negativity isn't always very helpful.

How fitting - I'm reaching a place where I have the courage to tell myself that I am what I want to be, and I just posted about it for Best Shot Monday.
