a place in time

The magnet of our childhood is in us always, pulling us back to places once familiar. It moves effortlessly like a current, pulsing with the strength of iron in our blood.

I think of this on long drives {with my hands on the wheel and his sleepy body buckled in the backseat} I think of this fleeting moment of adventure together ... just me, my son, and a map. With a head full of memories {the rocky coastline of Maine} and a heart full of dreams. I think this freedom is not really knowing where you're going but believing in your heart you'll soon find your way.

Why this path? {it's not for me to know} It's well worn, this road that leads me through the driving rain. I am here in this place in time. Yet my compass spins to East. {always has, always will} I find myself circling like a hawk, always with one eye on my happy place.

Show me, will you? Your happy place... a piece of your heart, a place you return to again and again. Show me the places you're drawn to, the places you belong. Let me join you there if only in our dreams.

I dream of visiting the smaller, weaker open arms of my Grandparents each year. No matte how old I become they are there take care of me, if only for a few days. Peace with them.

Your words breath magic, healing, hope. they give courage, reminding me of what is sacred, of my dreams, of Home... And, the photo, well it is exquisite...
As for the places of my heart, I am reminded of these:

I love going home to the sandhills of North Carolina. There is so much history for me, from these pines....

Good to see Meredith here!

I love arboretums and botanical gardens (in fact, I'm going to a new one tonight!). This is my favorite one ever, as it is in my home town. And I'm proud to say it is quite well-known.

I am so honored to be linked to in your post. :o) ("belong") It's even more appropriate than you could even know - the picture is from the downstairs kitchen window at my parents' cabin in Clark, CO. Clark is just above Steamboat Springs where my stepdad grew up and where we visited every other summer as a family when I was growing up. They head to Colorado every summer now and it definitely is a happy place for me and feels like returning to my childhood every time we visit. Maybe you're a little psychic? :o)

Norway. I was born there, half my family lives there (my dad is Norwegian, mom is American), and we try to go back every other summer. I miss it so much! Still feels like going home. :)

*waving enthusiastically*
hi everyone! thanks for the warm welcome. i've been enjoying your happy places, thanks for sharing these pieces of you!

and jenny, psychic perhaps (i used to pretend i had a photographic memory when i was a kid, and i was known for walking about saying "click" to prove my point. dork!) :) i do believe you can feel emotion through photography. i lived for 6 years in the mountains of colorado and there was something about your foggy morning that lended itself to 'belonging' :) it's good to hear the backstory behind the feeling of the image.

I have to go WEST........about 75 miles.

It is a place of great comfort and solace and being that it's only a little over an hours drive.....

The waves, they are loud and erratic, but they have a certain rythym that keeps me focused. Or at least 'grounded'.
