re-make

Don't get me wrong, I love my iPod and iTunes. I love being able to cherry-pick only my favorite songs. But a sad bi-product of having such freedom is that we don't get to appreciate the incredible art on the album covers. There are so many amazing ones, right? So I had this idea a while back to do a series of photographs that would be inspired by iconic album covers. One of which would have to be Abbey Road, by The Beatles. So my friend Tara and her adorable family came in for a family session the other day, and they pulled it off perfectly! I love how it turned out. And I love how Art expresses itself individually, based on who's behind the camera, or paintbrush, or computer screen, or crayon.

Do you have any images to share that were inspired by other artists, inside or outside the realm of photography? If so, we'd love to see! And also, what's your favorite album cover?

Very cool family portrait!
You *have* to see this YouTube video: "A Day in the Life of Abbey Road"... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKCG3zMEsYs

that's really neat! having been to abbey road and NOT getting a shot anything like the album cover (being that it is always packed with cars and tourists), i love the idea of re-creating instead of trying for the same thing
Fun capture!

One of my favorite albums is from Peter Gabriel. They used polaroid film and then an eraser to wrap the image as it was developing. I would love to try that if only I still had my polaroid camera. ;)

I think I will look through my album artwork and see what inspires me. Thanks!!

I love this photo!! My favorite album is The Who-- the one where the guy is sitting in a bath tub full of pork and beans. (Gross) Don't ask me why. I guess once you see it, you never forget it! (I am NOT re-creating that shot!) Boy, this gives me a lot of food for thought! Thanks for inspiring!

My true style is photojournalistic in nature - but I don't get to do a lot of that for my 365 project. I fell in love with the photojournalistic style shortly after I started shooting weddings, and I do everything I can to think outside of the traditional box when I'm shooting.

This shot (http://kellysphotographyblog.blogspot.com/2009/04/98365-tender-reflection.html) was inspired by photojournalistic photographer Matt Mcgraw (http://www.mattmcgrawphotography.com/).

And you know, I hardly listen to CD's anymore, so I don't really look at album covers! I'd have to say my favorite album cover (that is coming to mind, the one I would have bought purely for the cover) was that older Norah Jones release, "Come Away With Me." (http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=heIVsE-GuiB&aid=8KcdN0WeY-L). I can't get over that gorgeous, deep-eyed portrait!

My goodness this is funny! I don't have a photo to show but I'm a parrot head. I love all the Jimmy Buffet album covers.

I have one of those sansa "i-pods" and mine allows me to upload the cover art! I really like that feature, it's awesome. And, so is that photo!

Well, the newer iPods and iPhones actually do let you see and browse by the album cover. My iPod Touch actually lets you zoom through covers to find songs.

This is absolutely fabulous! I love it. I don't have anything to offer in response, however. But what great inspiration.

I remember staring at my older sister's album covers (she commented up there with the Norman Rockwellish photo reference). I remember Woodstock because of the naked people cavorting (hey I was just a kid!) and a Shawn Phillips album that just showed the back of his head, that long straight beautiful hair.
My inspiration lately comes from all my blog friends, they push me to try harder and take it just a bit farther ...

When I was a kid, my older sister had The Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers, and I was obsessed with it because it was so fun to play with. After growing up with the music, it still remains my favorite.

Way back in photo school we were given an assignment similar to this :) Here is my contribution:

With Pandora I get a little thumbnail of album covers. I'm always drawn to the simple, yet unconventional portraits.

I took this here in Austin in the Fall of 2007. Crossing Congress Ave. with the Capitol in the background.

On you get to the Gallery if you go to the image after the one I linked, it's the color version of the same photo!

Thanks for reminding me of this! It's one of my favorite photos and one that most of my clients comment about.

Abbey Road is such an iconic shot to re-do. Great job. I would love to do the John and Yoko cover as well as the sailor kiss from WWII.

love this pic! you can feel the wind.

fav album cover is obscure, but great art: "how to grow a woman from the ground" by chris thile. i believe the art is by loren witcher. chris thile's new group, punch brothers, has a fantastic, fun photo for the cover of their first album, "punch".

This is wonderful! Love the movement and independence in each of the family members.

I did my own take for a street shot with three nuns crossing a street here in SF which I've called Abbey Road for obvious reasons: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mybluemuse/2227902696/.

This is in New Braunfels right? I grew up there and have family that still lives there. I thought you were from California? Great picture. I am going to have to get my niece and nephews to do this with my sis.
