the big picture

 

Through my lens, I've always been drawn to the details. And since my favorite (macro) lens rarely leaves my camera, it's easy to see the things one might often miss.

And then, this summer, I got my hands on the Lensbaby Super-Wide Conversion Lens. My eyes have officially been opened to the wondrous world of landscapes. There's something about capturing the vast horizon at the edge of the world or the endless sky of sweeping cloudsthat makes you feel really tiny. A single grain of sand in the desert. One small yet sparkling star in the galaxy. It's humbling, liberating and inspiring.

the new mexico sky is an amazing thing...its vastness and color provide a wonderful palette! i felt so small when i was there with the sky and the interesting land features.

I love landscapes, I just don't see as many good ones now that I have kids and have cut way back on travel. This is my most favorite landscape that I've ever shot...hangs in my kitchen and takes my breath away over and over. I love that moment when the plane moves in to land. I sit there in my window seat and watch the immense expansiveness of everything get nearer and nearer, the impossible vastness of everything become a little bit easier to reach.

I love wide open spaces... I too have a mild addiction to my macro lens! So it's more challenging for me to capture the openness of landscape photography.

This shot was taken from a car window...It's one of my very favorites! Something about the cows and the one lone tree that leaves me feeling so free. There are still many places to "roam" on this earth. I love driving through farm country and seeing that there are no strip malls or sub-divisions!

I live next door to Joshua Tree National Park. There are many miles here to compose a perfect landscape. This photograph is one of my favorite. I call it, "The Trail of the Joshua Tree"

The sun was just coming over the horizon. I love how the trail leads your eye to the sky where the world just appears to drop out of sight. I would love to hear what you think about this photograph.
