the big picture

Through my lens, I've always been drawn to the details. And since my favorite (macro) lens rarely leaves my camera, it's easy to see the things one might often miss.

And then, this summer, I got my hands on the Lensbaby Super-Wide Conversion Lens. My eyes have officially been opened to the wondrous world of landscapes. There's something about capturing the vast horizon at the edge of the world or the endless sky of sweeping cloudsthat makes you feel really tiny. A single grain of sand in the desert. One small yet sparkling star in the galaxy. It's humbling, liberating and inspiring.

Show us your favorite landscape shot today. The kind of shot that takes your breath away again and again. A shot that gives the kind of perspective we all need; a reminder of how big and beautiful the world is.

What a stunning image Tracey!!
This isn't exactly a landscape in the true sense of the word...but one that provided a much needed different perspective:

the new mexico sky is an amazing thing...its vastness and color provide a wonderful palette! i felt so small when i was there with the sky and the interesting land features.

incredible capture, tracey! beautiful!

i assure you, my landscape shot does not do what i actually saw with my eyes any justice. but i still liked this photo. i wish i knew my camera better to be able to have taken a better shot, but i was still happy with it.

I love landscapes, I just don't see as many good ones now that I have kids and have cut way back on travel. This is my most favorite landscape that I've ever shot...hangs in my kitchen and takes my breath away over and over. Can't wait to revisit this spot someday...Jasper National Park in Alberta, CA. http://www.flickr.com/photos/pooqueen/149915195/sizes/o/

Amazing Alberta is always a good bet for landscapes.

I think wide shots are harder than detail shots for me by far. I do love this one though.

Two urban landscapes from Tokyo:

In midtown Tokyo, I took this photo from the 52nd floor of the Mori Building.

This photo was taken from the 53rd floor of The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo. That is Mt. Fuji in the distance.

I recently took these out the window of a plane as it neared Dublin airport for landing:

I love that moment when the plane moves in to land. I sit there in my window seat and watch the immense expansiveness of everything get nearer and nearer, the impossible vastness of everything become a little bit easier to reach.

I love wide open spaces... I too have a mild addiction to my macro lens! So it's more challenging for me to capture the openness of landscape photography.

This shot was taken from a car window...It's one of my very favorites! Something about the cows and the one lone tree that leaves me feeling so free. There are still many places to "roam" on this earth. I love driving through farm country and seeing that there are no strip malls or sub-divisions!

I like the one I use as my header...it's taken very close to where I live in Cornwall, England.

I live next door to Joshua Tree National Park. There are many miles here to compose a perfect landscape. This photograph is one of my favorite. I call it, "The Trail of the Joshua Tree"

The sun was just coming over the horizon. I love how the trail leads your eye to the sky where the world just appears to drop out of sight. I would love to hear what you think about this photograph.

My mom always says.... make sure you put somebody in the picture. Don't just take a picture of the landscape.... so I got a picture of my brother walking the beach in Cannon Beach. (Last year)

I bought the super wide when I bought the new Composer Lens. I didn't get to use it the way I had hoped when we were in Wyoming. But soon, I hope!
