introducing the capture collection by Bel Kai Designs

-Manzanita, Oregon

There are some image we capture, a stolen moment in time when the image itself moves far beyond a mere photograph. Whether it be of a person or a place, these shots are etched in our minds and in our hearts in a way that transcends anything we can put into words.

This is exactly how I feel when I am surrounded by the sea, the sand and the sky. And it’s how I feel when I see images taken there. It’s like pure magic. I can think of no better way to announce a recent creative collaboration with Bel Kai Designs: The Shutter Sisters Capture Collection

We will be rolling out our entire collection over the next few months (featuring some beautiful images from some talented ladies) but we’re kicking it off today with the Sea Sand Sky necklace. Did I mention I was excited? The three images I chose for this necklace mean so much to me and each holds a little piece of my heart. I am delighted to be able to share them in this way.

What makes it that much better is that in the spirit of Giveaway May we’re giving away a Sea Sand Sky necklace here. I’m so so happy about this!

Leave a comment here between now and Sunday at midnight PST to be included in the random drawing and if you’re so inclined, share an image that stirs your soul the way these stir mine.

Congratualtions to GoLightly, the winner of the necklace! YAY!

Lovely, so lovely and a great reminder for us to take care of our seas. This necklace is more than jewelry right now with the oil spill in our gulf, it speaks of the beauty we need to preserve.

I, too, am enraptured with the sea, sand and sky. The most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen is located on an uninhabited island called Shell Island near Panama City, FL. It is magnificent to see but the feeling I get when I am there is indescribable. Thank you for the cance to win this beautiful work of art.

The images are lovely, as is the necklace itself. I also love so many of Bel Kai’s other pieces, such as the Adorn necklace. And, oh, those rings! Thanks for the introduction.

It’s lovely! When we visit the ocean, the sounds and scents are my happy place. One day I hope to make it my permanent home.

I, too, design and photograph my jewelry with inspiration from Mother Earth.

One of my favorite images is of my oldest sitting in the big white kitchen sink when he was taking a bath when he was about 7 months old… I had just gotten some black and white film put into a simple camera.. He started splashing and I started clicking… On one of the shots when he splashed I caught that very moment and it shows the water frozen in air.. I just love that shot…

    I hope everyone had a great weekend…

  13. says

I’m not a huge fan of photo jewelry. but I LOVE THESE!!! very abstract in a way. Great give away for mom’s day weekend.

rushing sea, endless sea … speak to me! these are the first lines of a poem that bubbled to the surface and out of my mouth spontaneously the first time i got my first good look at the ocean 30 years ago. your simple, yet powerful images remind me of that moment. and remind me that it’s been too long (a whole month!) since i’ve been back to that magical place where the sea, sand and sky collide.

  16. says

What a beautiful feeling these images create! When I am walking along the seaside, feeling the sand between my toes and the water around my ankles, time stops for me. The sea always gives me silence within myself. The sea, the sound of the waves and seagulls brings me back to my true self. I could not live without the sea, because it gives me so much love. Taking that feeling of wholeness with you where ever you go captured within a beautiful necklace is comforting. I love it.

Ooooooo SO pretty! I LOVE the beach so I’ll be checking these out. I feel a "just-for-me-because-I-deserve-it" present coming!

That’s truly a lovely necklace. I know of few places more soul stirring for me than anywhere by the ocean. This is an image I shot with my Diana in Whitby on the coast of England, one afternoon when the fog was thick on the ground and the fog horns and the barely visible light houses and the sound of the breakers on the shore were more or less the only things to tell you that the vast ocean was present just on the other side of the fence – an experience I’ll never forget: http://www.flickr.com/photos/85057042@N00/4149105851/in/set-72157621822725790/

  24. Kristy says

I too love the ocean. I live in Chicago so it is a treat when I get to spend some time by the ocean. I sometime hope to live closer to one of the coasts. Beautiful necklace.

  25. Allison says

Wow, that’s absolutely beautiful! Just checked the rest of their site; I also love the "to love another is to see the face of God" charms.

  26. says

What a beautiful collection! I love this idea. Nothing makes me happier than the ocean – good weather or bad, there is just something clean and refreshing about it….

  27. says

That necklace is so gorgeous!! What a gift to live close to the ocean. I feel the draw when I see photos like this and want to be close to the ocean myself. There is just something about the ocean being so much bigger then we are that puts things in perspective. That you for sharing this and the fantastic give-away!

I tend to look to the sky for the same feelings the ocean gives you… http://awebert.wordpress.com/2010/05/09/for-shutter-sisters-3/

  28. tracy says

  29. says

I live in a land-locked place and the ocean is a special place for me. I only get to visit it occasionally and always love it when I’m there. I love the Rocky Mountains almost as much! And that necklace is gorgeous – thanks for sharing it!

  30. says

I am a land locked prairie dweller, but when I see the sea, it takes over me with anticipation. I get quite sea sick, so I’d rather just look. from the shore with two bare feet in the sand.

    and.. beautiful necklace

  31. Jennifer says

beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!! would love to win, and can’t wait to see what the rest of the collection looks like! what an amazing idea!

  32. Phyllis says

How beautiful – the beach is where I go to soothe my soul – what a beatiful reminder of the timelessness of the ocean and waves.

  33. Sue says

Peaceful, genuine, original and lovely all describe this specially created jewelry linking two areas of art, photography and jewelry making. Love to wear it or share it with someone special.

  34. Dawn says

Oh how wonderful, my favorite sand-sea pictures are the ones I took in Hawaii at our wedding before I used digital.

    That necklace is so beautiful!
