bokeh love

This is the perfect time of year to experiment with those beautiful fuzzy orbs of light we call bokeh. A string of Christmas lights is the ideal tool for creating bokeh in the background. For this photo, I setup a backdrop with strings of lights draped over top of a cream colored blanket. Then I placed my cute little subject about 10 feet in front of the backdrop and set my aperture as low as I could (f2.5 in this case). What resulted was a soft, creamy glow of bokeh in the background.

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us and the holiday twinkle lights are going up, get out there and play around with boheh! Show us your results, past and present so we can all get in the spirit of the season!

I plan on having some fun with bokeh as soon as the Christmas decorations are up. Can I just say your subject is too cute for words ♥

I've been playing with bokeh a little bit over the last few weeks - still trying to master it and learn how to do "custom bokeh".
Here is one of my results:

Oh what fun!
I'm so glad you included "past" bokeh shots.
Here are two of mine from last year. I quess it's time to get out the paperpunch and try again.
I wonder if those metal inserts from a cookie press would work?

Ooo! Good idea and thanks for the how-to! I just got a telephoto lens. Such fun learning how to get bokeh! I take a lot of leaf photos and love the soft bokeh that forms between leaves.

I haven't played with Christmas Tree bokeh this year (yet) but I had a blast with some heart shaped bokeh last year:

I learned about bokeh this year and it's now one of my favorite words (and favorite photo effect). Here's my (first) holiday light bokeh photo:

who, for the sake of pleasing the king, had been obliged to assume an amiable mien towards this whole rustic rabble of Flemish burgomasters, and to regale them at his H?tel de Bourbon, with a very "pretty morality, allegorical satire, and farce," while a driving rain drenched the magnificent tapestries at his door. http://www.digbbc.com
