Throughout my life I have had some wonderful things happen on May 1. Maybe that’s why I always feel a little giddy this time of year; excited about what May might bring.

One things for sure, May is bringing a brand new word for our One Word Project and lots of other good things too! First things first though…our word although may seem a bit ordinary at first glance, but it is anything but. Because if there is any creative community that can make magic out of the everyday its this community!

Yep! Our wonderful word for May is everyday. I can only imagine what kinds of beauty and inspiration you’re going to excavate through your lenses with a word like this one. You know the drill, upload your everyday images into our OWP flickr pool to play along. And check back here for featured photos.

And what makes this month even more special is that we’re loading it up with lots and lots of giveaways! We’re even calling it Giveaway May.

  15. My first thought upon hearing the new word is the song "Everyday" by Dave Matthews Band. Guess it’s time to bust out the old cd and see if there’s inspiration in the lyrics. Looking forward to the pictures that follow this word.

  16. I’ve actually been planning a photo post to accompany some thoughts on Alice Walker’s "Everyday Use." I love this word.

  22. Picture Spring was a boost to thinking about capturing the beauty in the every day. Hopefully, now I can figure out how to post to the OWP pool. Off to shoot. Already the ideas are percolating.

    I like the new word. I actually just looked up the meaning of a french phrase this morning: "la vie quotidienne," and it means the same thing 🙂

  76. Life is about seeing the beauty in the "everyday". As I get older, being able to say that I have no plans for the weekend is a gift.

As I browse through my flickr contacts spectacular high-concept portraits or beautiful images of distant locations, I occasionally wonder about my everyday subject matter, and whether my pictures are "worth" posting. But everyday is what my life, at home with small kids, is all about and I have gotten so much psychic benefit from looking for beauty in the everyday that I can’t imagine stopping.

    I love the way the late light hits my cutting board as I prep dinner, for the whole of the daylight savings time. I have taken a few pictures of produce hitting the chopping block, this one is from last week.

    I find there is so much everyday beauty and joy around us! I look forward to having this as my challenge – to be mindful and aware of the happenings around me.

  120. Everyday… I tend to think about the mundane when I use the word. The challenge I’ll put to myself is to explore the everyday that is special/equiste/wonderful while still being "everyday".
