It had been a long day; the neighborhood arts festival kept the crowds coming through the restaurant steady and hungry, and Susie stayed on her feet, cooking and serving. Finally, it was closing time, and she got a chance to sit and eat her dinner as she watched a bit of television, her spoon traveling absentmindedly from the bowl to her mouth and back again.

I remember walking by the storefront and stumbling upon this scene. I was moved by how beautifully mundane this image was, and I’ve often thought of what I saw that night over the next several months.

We are quickly approaching the end of 2010, and now is a good time to look back on the past year of photos you’ve taken and take an inventory of the images that have remained in your heart over the months.   1. I love this topic, I know I have photos that have stayed with me each year and have come to represent more than just what they captured initially. These two photos, both from the June timeframe, are a symbol of my blossoming creativity. They were from around the time I claimed myself an artist, with a valid and unique point of view to share with the world. Looking back, I can see that this period of time was a pivotal point in my year. These two images are definitely on the top of my list of my special photos for 2010.

  3. Thank you for asking this question! Looking back on all the photos I've taken this year, it feels good to see so many images that speak to me emotionally and remind me of happy memories.

    I had a difficult time picking out just one, but I ended up with this one, since it speaks of long, magical summer's nights – memories to treasure now in the depth of winter:

  7. I've been wanting to contribute to the "your best shot" pool on Flickr, but I've had such a hard time committing. I'm drawn to different images for different reasons. This is the one I probably pull up the most, as I think of having it printed and framed for a little memorial by his box of ashes. (Sorry, kinda a bummer!)

  11. I just came back to the states having been stationed in Guam for 3 years with my family. My husband is a Navy physician but I have always worked locally as a pediatrician. I was extraordinarily lucky to go to Yap – A teeny island in the Federated States of Micronesia to work for a few weeks.

    Outside one of the clinic these two girls watched me and yelled out to me- What's his name?? What's his name? I walked over and they giggled over themselves.

    I'm so blessed to have gotten one of my favorite shots all year!

  16. this is the image that keeps on popping into my head when I think about the last year. I think its because as my girl gets older, she isnt always so readily goofy and spontaneous as she once was – you know, the eye rolling and 'coolness' that starts in 2nd grade…
    so, the fact that she even agreed to do a photo shoot with me was amazing enough, i caught this shot right in time and will always have it to remind me that coolness sucks 🙂

    I think it means something to me because I took it with my pocket point-n-shoot camera that's 3 years old, but it turned out pretty awesome (in my opinion). I think this photo solidified the idea in my head that good photography isn't so much about the camera as it is about the person behind the lens.

    Not that I think I'm that great… I'm still learning a ton… but I had the "lightbulb moment" when I realized that good photography was not completely out of my grasp. That I could *maybe* do it.
