He’d never been so sick. Scorching to the touch, dripping, lethargic, coughing uncontrollably, waking up through the night in delirious discomfort. The kind of sick that you watch the clock for, to keep ahead of symptoms with proactive teaspoons of relief. The kind of sick that gets him whatever his listless whine requests: a fourth episode of Backyardigans, a bubble bath at lunchtime, marshmallows in his alpha bits.
Today, show us candid quietness and caring and neediness. Show us exhaustion and pajama days. Show us unposed, unglittery, unbuoyant love.
I had a sick kid around here a couple of weeks ago. We also watched several episodes of The Backyardigans!

My boys were down with the flu last week; it broke my heart:

oh sweet boy, i hope he’s feeling better soon!
we spent most of last winter so very sick, i had plenty of opportunities to catch the sleeping sickness, but this is probably my favorite (a favorite photo of a sick child? how sick is that?!) but the long string of drool down the couch really is just heartwarming ๐

feel better soon! i’m keeping my fingers crossed that we are healthier this winter.
my 19 year old baby lives in halifax, going to dal. he was hit with the h1n1 virus during midterms. could barely speak on the phone, coughing his lungs up, vomiting, the whole gamut. for now, even though your boy is sick, feed him teaspoons all day long. he will grow up and have the flu away from home and you will have to nurse from afar.
Poor guy– ๐ Hope he’s feeling better soon, Mama!

Not a child, but my sister, at rest in her own home during the last stages of her illness…

we’ve had winters like that in the past. it’s excruciating! love that photo…it really tells the story Kate (especially that perfectly placed highlight under his nose). makes my mama heart ache. sending you a little sanilty, love and healing over the miles.
on the subject: one of my favorite series of my daughter was taken on a sick day.

I don’t have a photo to share, although I do tend to take them when my daughter is sick. But I always found that there is an extra dose of sweetness she possesses when we’re snuggled in bed at 3 a.m. while she fights fevers or vomiting or stuffy noses. Little whispered conversations, nose-to-nose, fingers intertwined…..
Oh, poor thing.
Awww, I hope he feels better soon!
My 3 year old had pneumonia last week. She had baths in the middle of the day, applesauce (ONLY) for every meal, breathing treatments every 2 hours around the clock, and went from one pair of pjs to another for 5 solid days.
Alas, no pics. But next time, I’ll remember to pick up my camera. Hope your little guys are well, Kate.
Sweet baby went down. It was nearly a year ago now. It was actually the Shutter Sisters OOP that heightened my alertness to just how sick she was getting.

And yes, she got anything she wanted, but all she wanted was to be held and to sleep.
I hope your little one is feeling better soon.
hope he feels better soon. x.
My baby was sick and it was so sad looking but humorous at the same time because she constantly had a snot bubble coming out of her nose!

Not a moment of illness, but testing for potential problems… definitely both she & I were feeling very vulnerable.
