I’m in the zone. As I start flying through the checklist of starting my own photography business, I generally feel a sense of accomplishment. It’s nice to see the pieces falling into place one by one, giving me the confidence that I really can make this happen. And even though I have been focusing most of my attention on things like tax forms and pricing equations, I am grateful for this community of women who remind me to be creative and practice my craft. I am inspired daily by the Shutter Sisters posts, and by the large community that supports them. Each day brings new ideas and challenges that push me and cause me to pick up my camera and practice. Sometimes I feel like I’m getting a free education from this group, so thank you all for that!
So, while it is important for me to focus on the business side of things, I need to keep in mind that none of that matters if I don’t push myself to be a better photographer. I could have the coolest website in town and the slickest business cards on the block, but if I don’t pick up my camera in between, it all means nothing.
What a good reminder that we should all be "practicing" whatever it is that we love to do. Whether that’s photography or writing or sewing or what-have-you. Thanks. 🙂
You are pursuing a dream. Yours and mine. You must continue with fervor, as you are doing it for yourself….and for me. I am cheering on the sidelines for you. watching and waiting.
I am in the middle of getting my own photography business up and running as well. The paperwork is overwhelming. I’m just grateful that I get a shot at making a living doing the one thing I love most. Here’s hoping it works out great for the both of us. Good luck!

I am excited for you – as a beginner in the world of photography, I am surprised at how passionate I have become over the last few months over this art. It is changing the way I see the world…and I couldn’t be more grateful for it. Some day I hope to be where you are, on the brink of birthing a new chapter to your photography and turning it into something you can tangibly share with others.
There is always the danger of making the ‘chop wood, carry water’ the total focus, when your camera is crying to be taken out of its case and let loose upon your world. Blessings on your business!

I know what you mean about all the biz stuff. There’s that, and then there’s photography. The latter is what moves me, the former what I am consumed with. Ugh.
