“Above all else, it is about leaving a mark that I existed.
I was here… I was hungry. I was defeated. I was happy. I was sad.
I had an idea and I had a good purpose,
and that is why I made works of art.”
– Felix Gonzalez-Torres

We had a death in the family this week. Today I was scouring my files to find his picture. I make photos to document the lives

I take photos to pay attention to and celebrate my life – the large and the small – a mix of joy, gratitude, memory collecting and art making.
    Fantastic image!

What amazing light! I take photos in order to create something that exists independently of myself, something that hopefully can touch people in the way that other people's creative endavours touch me.

I photograph to remind myself that I am part of something much bigger than my little corner of the universe.

in my daily snapshot blog i want to present seemingly ordinary things, objects, people, natural scenes in extra-ordinary ways, viewing them from a different perspective, shedding a new light on them

This weekend I captured this newborn baby, adopted by parents who had waited years for a baby to call their own… their story was so moving to me!

I'm a yoga and meditation teacher and have discovered that a photography "practice" is very similar to sitting on the mat and listening. What a gift this is.

    awesome photo!

just this morning, i read an post on a writer's blog that said that creative people create out of a desire to connect and relate… that that is what is at the core of art. i agree! and i think it's a big reason i take photos. i love this quote! so good.

    another reason i take photos… to remember…

I take photos to remind myself that ordinary is epic. That everything I need is right here, right now, right where I am. To remind myself of the beauty that I pass by every day.

My whole life I've been attracted to photographs- first because I came from a family of secrets and the photographs helped me unravel the mystery. Then because I wanted to document my experience. Later, because I could hardly go anywhere without seeing the world as if in snapshots, and now because it brings me great satisfaction and joy – as art.
