one sweet shot – june 2009

June 14, 2009 By shutter sisters

Although we usually feature recent shots here for our One Sweet Shot, I couldn’t help but share this from the past. This timeless moment was captured by none other than one of our own, Stephanie Roberts at last years Shutter Walk at BlogHer in San Francisco. So, why the blast from the past? Well this weekend I had the pleasure of connecting with some BlogHers and Hims in anticipation of this summer’s festivities. It made me look back at last year and remember how wonderful it was to see everyone in person.

This year is going to be extra special at BlogHer because all 10 of the regular contributors here are going to be attending. Yes, even Irene Nam from Paris! I cannot begin to tell you how giddy it makes me. I thought in the spirit of honoring sisterhood on all levels, this shot of Stephanie’s spoke volumes.

And speaking of honoring sisterhood, let’s get down to this month’s One Sweet Shot honorees:

Elle Moss is honoring this shot from Bee Hives

Erin “Wilsonian” is honoring this shot from Caramel Eclare

Katrina Kennedy is honoring this shot by MyraC

Marcie Scudder is honoring this shot by Toni at Daily Vignette

Maggie Keegan Gross is honoring this shot from Amy at Teegan Photography

Betty Jo is honoring this shot from Eva Ricci

And MaineMomma is honoring this shot by Sew Fab Martha

Stellar shots by stellar women! Thanks to you for playing along.

So, sisters, now I am reeling with inspiration and burning questions for you… if you could dream up something wonderful for all of us to do as a group, what would it be? After our Dream Assignment win (the project will official take flight later this summer!) and the grand plans for our Shutter Suite, what is it that you would love to participate in? More community projects? Local Shutter Sisters gatherings? Photo excursions? A big Shutter Sisters bash somewhere amazing like Aruba? OK maybe I’m going overboard but who says we have to limit ourselves here? It’s all in fun!

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the sisterhood and what we can do to make your own shutter dreams come true.

i love the idea of photo workshops : local ss chapters would be great… perhaps with jurored events or at least more feedback (ala ‘your photo tips’ site) i’m not a serious photographer but am always looking for ways to grow – i’m finding there are a lot of looky-loos but not a lot of comments or feedback out there…

I love your challenges, they challenge me! A contest or two perhaps? A readers’s choice contest?

And I would definitely buy a Shutter Sisters t-shirt…

love the community projects and local s.s. gatherings idea.

i was also wondering if you could focus {no pun intended} on amateur photographers like myself who visit here daily for inspiration and to learn who may be interested in becoming a professional photographer or at least get a lot better at it. i’m not sure what that would look like, but maybe more posts about how one gets into the business as a living and not just as a hobby. i enjoy taking pictures so much, and sometimes i think i could enjoy doing it for a living. maybe you have focused on this in the past—i’m somewhat new to s.s., so maybe i missed that. if so, disregard, but i guess it would not hurt to revisit it. i just think this is one of the best places to go not just for inspiration, but for resources, too.

You are so NOT going over board with the Aruba idea! I love it. I also like the idea of more community projects and anything that brings women together for the love of shooting.

local shutter sister gatherings would be wonderful…
but since I’m caught here in the middle of the midwest, I’d hop on a plane to be beachside with other shutter sisters where the warmth of the sun and the sound of the tides would be our backdrop !

First, I am SO honored to be included in the OSS this month, especially coming from Marcie, whose work I admire on a daily basis. Thank you Marcie and SS!

I think local SS gatherings, workshops, or chapters even, would be a great idea. Living in a small town, I feel pretty isolated most of the time, with noone to share my passion. I doubt that I’d be able to hop on a plane for a big bash, but I could certainly drive somewhere if there enough advance notice.

Baring my soul here I wish for collaborations…

3191 is a delight – both the blog and the book

    Thefour is another

All my life seems to be one long (sometimes desparate) attempt to belong somewhere.

Local chapters, sisterhood meetups, ways to connect that are tangible and ‘real world’ is what I long for… The meeting of like minded creative souls

Living in a very remote rural area in northern Canada (north of the 55th parallel) I would LOVE to have a ‘local’ sisterhood to meet with on an annual basis. FInding other Ssisters through here would sure be a highlight for me. I know of one other in Alberta — a very long way from me but surely there are more and for an annual event we could all meet somewhere "in the middle". Oh how I would love that.

i look for any excuse to get away – i vote for excursions! i know they can get pricey, but if we plan in advance and save up, how fun would THAT be?!

I love the idea of local meetings and gatherings. I think my husband gets frustrated sometimes when I want to go out photographing, and it is boring all by myself. I would love to find sisters to go shooting with and to share technique and inspiration.

Couldn’t have said it better than Leonie said it here. Collaboration and connection…and finding other like-minded-creative-souls to work with on a project that would be more process than product-oriented would be my dream.

I love the projects as they keep me shooting in new and unexpected ways. Contests are always good. Local groups would be great. I second the shutter sisters t-shirt idea. What really keeps me coming back here are the great photos that provide inspiration from such a wide variety of people…professional and armature alike.

yes perhaps a mini shutter sisters TOUR! visit major cities where others could possibly meet. that would be great for a mom like myself who lives much to far to travel to a blogher conference. but if you came to a few cities perhaps others like myself could make that travel… (boston hint hint lol)

I have another photo that will fit this post. I shot this a couple of hours ago, along with many other wildflowers at the bottom of our hill. I don’t know what it is, but I loved the colors. I used my macro as it is a tiny little thing. Be sure to view it on black.

oh local SS meet-ups and shutter walks would be fab!
Anyone else from London or the UK? I’d happily co-ordinate something this side of the pond.
In the meantime, just keep doing what you’re doing, encouraging us to dream, and grow, flourish and share.
    Shutter Sisters rock!
