I ordered some wool felt for some possible craft projects I have in mind. But when the package arrived I was more interested in taking pictures of the felt than using it. The beautiful colors and textures along with the way each piece was carefully rolled up and tied with a piece of twine just begged for a photo. This seems to happen pretty often where I’m more excited to take a photo of an item or situation than use it, eat it or live it. I would imagine I’m not alone in this because as photographers, we often see beauty around us that others may pass by. It’s what sets us apart as artists.
What do you find yourself more excited to photograph than to use?
here my warm subjecs, so cozy! http://esterdaphne.blogspot.com/2010/02/calze-di-pura-lana-100.html
My favorite material is yarn – I wind up using most of it, but I love to see a pile of it sitting there waiting to become something. And there are a few special skeins that have been waiting quite a while now for the right project to come along.

lovely color and detail!
when i got laid off last april, i had to think about some ways to supplement my income. i decided to open at etsy shop. although i am not very entrepreneurial, i love vintage things and had been collecting them for myself for years.
in order to sell some of those things, i knew i needed to photograph them, so i began to look for creative ways to do that. this was one of my favorite shots of one of my etsy items.

i had so much fun, i think i could photograph vintage things all day. it’s fun to get creative with it.
Ummmm, everything?! LOL
Just yesterday, I gave my son three lollipops. Not because I wanted him to eat them…
He was happy. (and promptly told me they tasted funny)

I purchased a ball of cotton string recently after using up the rest of the previous roll. And it was just so pretty in its utter simplicity after I unwrapped it that I could not resist taking a photo. Ball of string on a plain white kitchen countertop. Complete unadornment, but I loved the image.
A friend gave me fresh baked Valentine’s cookies yesterday. They were so beautiful I couldn’t wait to shoot them.

Happy Valentine’s Weekend!
All of my mom’s yarn! I love when she knits me things but the thought of ever doing it myself…. I would much rather photograph it. http://www.danileighblog.com/?p=263
Beautiful photo. It’s like taking all those pictures of leeks rather than getting down to the business of making leek and potato soup.
this photo is completely and utterly breath taking… just sooo perfect!
thank you…xxo, kim

many times i feel so stupid – here i am photographing my breakfast while my cereal gets soggy, but i like to capture the weekend mornings – I love the morning light. Looking back I can see what season it is was or what was going on in my life just by the stuff on my table.
My friend Sara (http://thedailyphotograph.blogspot.com/) started a Word-a-Week photo challenge, and the word for 2/15 was "obligation" – –
My subject of choice worked for that word and for this post as well!
