I believe in the photographer’s magic — the ability to stir the soul with light and shape and colour. To create grand visual moments out of small and simple things… ~Amyn Nasser
Children dancing…twirling, sashaying, floating. A blur of movement gently takes her soul by the hand as a glow of light infuses her existence with energy, and shadows hauntingly whisper a summon, “dance with us”. She is flesh, yet the magic softly clicks, clicks, clicks as though the magician were present in spirit only…body vacated by her dancing soul. The music ends, body and soul reunite…all the while her human eye never saw. But her magic did. One pink toenail.
Please share a link in comments to your out of body photography moment…your one pink toenail shot. We each have at least one image presumed to be captured by accident. Me, I believe in magic. Do you?

This was magic for me. First day out with my new toy. I was sitting in the car when, viola! A plane headed into LAX for a landing…

Thank you Melody for giving us a new perspective on "accidents"! I don’t have many that turn out as lovely as yours, but this one comes to mind. This was taken way back when I guess I didn’t clue in to increase the ISO for low light indoor shots and everything was so blurry!! Drove me crazy, but this first shot still works for me for some strange reason:

‘Accidents’ and coming upon the ‘unexpected’ are what makes it for me.
Here’s one accident:

Here are two ‘coming upon the unexpected’:

So I’ve discovered that accidents generally turn out to be some of the best-most favourite pictures. That once occasionally you get these really great accidents that excites you to the core, butterflies churning in the stomach. A mini adrenaline rush that makes you want to look at the world from so many different angles-to discover all the other little accidents…

I snapped this one in the early spring. My intent was to take a picture of my daughter and just as I hit the shutter, she turned her head to watch the passing cyclist. ๐

Delighted to see you here, Melody.
Beautiful post, beautiful image.
This was a happy accident http://www.flickr.com/photos/christinator/2552798358/
So was this
http://www.flickr.com/photos/christinator/2301427686/
These were from one morning on vacation, sitting outside sipping coffee and snapping pictures. The first is a bizarre cloud just at dawn, the second an accidental sun flare at sunrise with jet trails cutting across the sky a little bit later in the sunrise.

I love this post. Everyone’s photos are amazing. I’ll be back later to check out anyone else’s, so add your photos! =)
Here are a few of mine:
There’s no other explination for the moment captured by "accident" in this photo but the expressions of the heart between a Mama and her baby boy. The craziest part is that I took it and it is of me and my son. =)

a take off i was not expecting

and an incoming return

and one of my favorite "accidental" moments; when snapping photos of my son’s valentines day party, my sister swooped up her giggling boy and this sweet perfection "just happened"…

I seem to have a lot of those moments….

Here’s one that was really unexpected that I took yesterday…..this is my sister, who upon coming out of the pool, pointed and said there was a dragon in the sky (really she just wanted me to stop taking pics, lol)

Beautiful photo!
One of my happy accidents: http://heyitssierra.com/blog/2008/04/13/godzilla/
I was trying to take a picture of a four leaf clover and the cat busted in on the scene.
I’ve posted this photo before, but it is, by far, my happiest accident which was taken while photographing my son at the park recently.
I don’t believe in coincidence. Not here anyway…

Here’s a happy accident. My baby now has bling!

Thank you all for sharing. I will be intentionally visiting each of your accidents.
Wishing you a day of smiles. ๐
What a wonderful idea! I’m still new enough to photography that a lot of my shots are accidents (!), but this one particularly came to mind:

Thanks for sharing your magic moments, everyone!
A setting sun, zoom lens and dark tree behind gave this shot a dream-like quality that I could never have achieved if I had been trying…

How beautiful! There is a photo I love and I can’t say why…because it isn’t really a "quality photograph" but there is something about the image that just captures a certain spirit for me:

I didn’t realize that I’d caught the reflection of the moon in the water until weeks after I’d taken the photo. Happy accident indeed.

one from today that was just "there"…..

I love the way the tree is framed by the boards and the little fingers are visible at the top. I was really just trying to get her face, but ended up loving the composition of it all.

I posted this for something before, but it fits this category. I just LOVE this picture and it was a completely spontatenous click.
Maybe I need to stop deleting my accidents before I really look at them. There could be magic in those shots!
Thanks for sharing everyone!
Lovely post and photo!
This starburst lens flare was a happy accident:

I had tried to figure out how to do it on purpose, but never got it. Once I got this by accident, I was able to tone it down to achieve a more in-control lens flare:

What camera was this taken with?
I love it!
Hi, Heather. It was taken with my good old Canon Rebel XT with this lens which was a Mother’s Day gift and I LOVE it: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/149629-USA/Canon_2562A002_Zoom_W_A_Telephoto_EF_28_135mm.html

And thanks for your comment.
This was most definitely an accident, but an appropriate one because it represents how dazzled I was by seeing the Eiffel Tower at night for the first time!
