It’s senior portrait season and I am loving the variety it’s bringing to my photography. It’s often a welcome break after months of chasing toddlers, hoping to get a shot before they are on the move again. Believe me, I love photographing little kids, but it is refreshing to hang out with these seniors. We wander around downtown hunting for cool alleys or doorways, talking along the way. It’s fun to get to know them and learn about their interests and personality, putting away the bubbles and squeaky toys for the day and taking my time with backgrounds and poses. But most importantly, I enjoy taking the time to capture each senior’s uniqe style and personality.

  6. After months of feeling as though my only subjects were flowers, we brought our 3 year old daughter to the Bronx Zoo and the NY Aquarium for the first time. Not only did we have a wonderful time, but it was an incredibly refreshing change of pace from a photography standpoint!! My Nikon fell in love with giraffes and jellyfish 😉

  8. i’ve recently begun a new adventure into architectural photography (new homes designed and also landscape architecture) it hurt my brain at first… something new and outside my comfort zone of feelings and emotions that come with portrait sessions. this was all angles and lines, finding beauty in shapes and not ‘moments’

    it’s a good change. and good for me to stretch my brain in these ways too!

  13. no kidding, this is ‘seniors’ portrait time in the US?
    I was thinking of trying to get that ‘habit’ or ‘event’ going up here in Canada (up here seniors are senior citizens in their golden years). But I didn’t realize you do that late into the summer just before school starts. And here I thought the time to begin doing seniors was prior to the end of their senior year? I have a lot to learn about the US. I love this photo, btw.

  16. My welcome change is my iMac broke, and I’m so past my AppleCare plan that I have to save up to fix it. Luckily I can check email and such at work, but in the meantime I’m enjoying just capturing images, and letting go of the need to "keep up" with uploading and processing. It’s a welcome change, and I’m forcing myself to just take it for what it is. 🙂
