I’ve always had a particular fondness for night photography. It’s only natural, considering I am nocturnal to the extreme. In fact, I consider this my superpower, being able to harness mere moonlight to create an image that looks like it was taken during the day.
What about you? What’s your photographic superpower? Perhaps it’s collecting dreamy flare. Or capturing little people in motion. Maybe you have extra creative post-processing skillz. Whatever it is, go ahead; don’t be shy. Show us your superpower in action!
What fun! Was that photo really taken at night?? I'm trying to get over my reluctance to claim a "superpower" in order to post. My little internal voice is saying, "You can't put anything out there as a superpower, that's going too far." But I'm overcoming that voice to post what I think are my two strengths. I love them so much I've written instructional posts on them for others. (That's what happens when I love something, I have to teach it.)
Handheld Night photography, being able to capture the mood of a city at night, without a tripod: http://www.kateyeview.com/2010/09/exploring-with-camera-night-photography.html

I didn't have a tripod with me so I held my breath and propped myself up against a car to take this photo.

I like night photography but find it very tricky.
My photographic superpower is making fake holga-shots ^_^

I totally want to improve my night shooting powers. I absolutely love the light you've captured in that image up there!!
wow, how cool! had no idea that a photo like you posted was even possible!!!
as for my superpower, like Kat I'm having a hard time with actually naming a superpower. i'm still not good enough at ANY aspect of photography. i guess i would say (right on the heels of yesterdays post!) that taking photos with my iPhone is my superpower.

Superpower is a strong word that I'm not totally comfortable tagging on myself either. But if I must, I'd say one of my superpowers (at least it's a super-love of mine) is capturing silhouettes.

Not sure if it's much of a superpower at this point but I hope for it to be some day. I strive to capture real, true, emotion, expressions. It is something that really takes time to get to know my subject-to figure out how to help them feel comfortable, to get them to laugh and to get to the place that they don't feel I am even there.

@Kat: I really like your frame within a frame superpower… I like those kind of point of view, which add a kick and something very special to a photo.
I'd say that my superpower is to take very very simple, but very good portrait. And I love to take portrait, above every other type of photography.

It's hard to determine a superpower, isn't it? Photography is a hobby, an art which is so rich: a photographer never stop to learn, even after 20 years of experience, there is still something to learn or to explore, wheter it's a new technique or a renew point of view. Makes it hard to stop and say: I am good at that. I'll never stop to improve my skills at taking portrait, as long as I take photos.
If I had to choose one, I'd say my ability to capture my animals.

tfs everyone
i have no superpower but i love seeing all the powers out there 🙂
i think my superpower is the ability to catch the light:

My superpower is recognizing the beauty in the ordinariness of my daily life.

First of all, I love this photo. The light sparkle is simply magnificent. How on earth… Lovely, really. I am still working on my relationship with light (a generational inheritance). I am moved by the mood of an image. I am particularly fond of de and re constructing my photos (and my father's photos) to change the mood and/or create something fantastical. I posted an example on my blog today. Have a look if you like.

I don't know if I'd call it a superpower, but I strive to capture the feeling of the moment in the little things.
Here's two from a wedding I attended last spring – both shots speak volumes about the bride and my dear friend. She's addicted to both her blackberry and iced tea!

wow sarah, this photo! i love it. you are brilliant at night, it's obviously a time when you come alive. i love being able to see it through your images.
Sometime in the spring of 2010, I began taking photos of things I found on the street. I now consider myself an explorer seeking splendor in the small. So today I crown myself "Asphalt Girl" (definitely with tongue-in-cheek).

Like many of comments above, I struggled with laying claim to a "superpower", as if I don't deserve my own acclamation. I wonder why that is?
such an awesome question. I really had to think about what I considered my power. And after perusing my photo stream, I know that it may not be a super-power, but a definitely love is TEXTURE

My super power:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/deniselivingston/4465768080/
Though, I don't practice it as much as I'd like to.
The greatest compliment I have ever had on my photography came from a colleague who said “I can’t tell if this photograph was taken 100 years ago or 100 seconds ago.”

My super power has to be in capturing and using the light..
http://www.flickr.com/photos/debbsga/5360110508/
ive gotten really good at moving it,playing with it and using it to max the look of any photo.
Took me years to even SEE the light.
Maybe I have a flair for the ordinary.

What a great vision building exercise!
super powered i am not but sometimes i do have super patience and as a result can get a shot like this

Even though I feel like I don't deserve the term 'super power' but if I had one, it would be accidentally capturing beautiful moments.

After scanning my collection of images, I've discovered that my superpower is getting low. I find myself on the ground or shooting up almost too often these days. We went to a friend's daughter's dance class and I got this shot by setting the camera on the floor and clicking the shutter blindly: http://www.flickr.com/photos/anngeedee/5167293941/
I think I'm really good at making my friends feel beautiful, even when they're half-naked and growing a human –

no superpowers, just trying to grasp the essence and the feeling of a place… overview, people and details.
but still learning so much. as last weekend in paris. what a great place to learn.

my super power is asking strangers if i can take their photos…..and lucky me, they always say yes….
http://moredoors.blogspot.com/2011/01/promise-to-myself.html
Impressive….just like during the day.
My superpower is making a dreary place look dreamy and bright…like the "Magic Forest" outside my door. I like to shoot styled stuff out there in the dead of winter—it gives me hope 😉

That is a fantastic photo I would never have known it was taken at night. I am totally going to have to try creating an image like that. Thank you for the inspiration you send my way daily!
I haven't done much night photography. I should give it a try. Yours turned out really great detail.
I love using a large aperture and a little editing to make little flowers look like they are underwater…..

Right now I am obsessed with light. As in…taking pictures of the sun directly! Haha. I mean, of course I know that's technically a no-no but I just love pointing my camera right at the sun and seeing what happens. But I'm also just obsessed with the effect of light in photos period. Not a superpower, just something I'm enjoying right now. Also, another thing I'm loving is playing with depth of field: focusing on an inademate object with something (especially a person) in the background. It changes the whole tone of a photo for me, especially since it's often normal for the person to be in focus. It's just something I've been playing with lately. 🙂
And your photo? Wow! I can't believe it was taken at night.
