Shutterbuddies

December 6, 2010 By sarah-ji

It’s the other side of midnight, my favorite hour to explore the city with my camera. Normally, I would venture out on my own, enjoying the solitude and my quality time with Chicago’s beautiful dark side. Tonight, however, I have company. My friends DM and Brett, fellow D90 users, are my co-conspirators on this particular night photo adventure.

We shoot for a couple hours together in the cold, and I have to say that I enjoy the cameraderie and the freedom to linger here and there. My companions don’t rush me or start tapping their feet when they’re ready to move on because they too understand that sometimes you absolutely need to take 20 shots of your shoe. By the end of the shoot, we’re starving, freezing and tired, but it was totally worth it for me. I feel grateful to have found fellow photographers who are night owls like myself.

Do you have shutterbuddies who insire and energize you? Please share any stories and images you have of such collaborative photo adventures.

It is both amazing to me..and very impressive that you go out shooting in t he middle of the dark night like that. Good that you – occasionally – have some buddies to keep you company.
And – I always go out alone. Mostly early in the morning..preferring my own company and those of the birds to anything else:

At BlogHer '10, my friend Burgh Baby (www.theburghbaby.com) and I took a crazy long walk one evening and snapped/talked away. It's one of my favorite memories of the conference. My favorite photo was actually one she took and ended up posting on her blog. Not "artistic" but beyond fun.

Last weekend, my best friend's husband and I teamed up to shoot her maternity pictures. It was really silly and so much fun, and I think we helped each other learn a little too…

I've been participating in a little challenge called Team Up Thursday http://thehipmommasjournal.squarespace.com/journal/2010/10/28/team-up-thursday.html from Megan at Mental Inventory and Melogy at himmomma's journal since last summer. They introduced me to my partner Kristina and it's been so much fun. We don't always post since life will take over but when we do, it's a blast.

Here's a couple of collaborative efforts.

I don't have a fellow photo buddy. I should ask Santa for a photo buddy for Christmas. I shoot with a D90, too! what's your favorite lense? I have the kit lens 18-105mm, a 50mm (my favorite) and the lensbaby package.

My shutter buddy is my muse. She wouldn't know an f stop if it was staring her straight in the face. But that is why I love her. She loves to model though. She has been there every step of the way, though, and without her amazing modeling skills and trust, I wouldn't be doing what I am now. Shooting people for money!!!!!

I would love to have more people to go shooting with. My number one shooting buddy is my husband, but with three small children, a photo ramble is a rare thing. I have recently started a collaborative blog with a very dear friend of mine, with our current challenge being an Advent photo-a-day.
