I loved reading Twyla Tharp's book. Just about everything she said resonated with me.
Running away..without leaving home. So perfect.

When you have a small child, for a while the adventures get small too. But with the help of images, you can find adventures in the here and now. Mundane becomes comical and beautiful and worth savoring.

There's something about taking pictures – it reminds you that there is still beauty in the world, that in the grand scheme of life things still make sense, that God is still in control. Here is a shot I took the other day when life had gotten too big and my husband took me on a photo drive to 're-center' me.

When something grabs my attention and I reach for my camera time just flies by as I lose myself in the subject in front of my lens. I am absorbed by the subtle changes in the quality of the light and how they change what I see. I can easily shoot 100 frames of just one flower, viewing it from all angles.

Such a perfect quote for today! Thank you!!

I use my lens all the time to run away…many times away from home…more often than not in my own back yard.

I've lost track of how many hours have been spent trudging through mosquito infested swamps and forest trails in search of my elusive friends…the more skittish the better!
    http://winnipegweddingphotographybycoral.blogspot.com/2011/03/belted-kingfisher.html

Cruising the back roads brought me this fella, just sitting on a hydro wire
    http://winnipegweddingphotographybycoral.blogspot.com/2011/03/western-meadowlark.html

But the best for me was this past month where I trekked 2km in and plopped my butt down in the snow for 4 hours being surrounded by these guys
    http://winnipegweddingphotographybycoral.blogspot.com/2011/03/common-redpoll.html

That same day I had this fella eating out of my lap…truly an escape from the everyday life

My husband and I made a point of satisfying our travel bug before we recently started a family. During those trips, I captured our adventures through countless photos. Today, I treasure those photos (as I treasure all of my photos). Each time I look at them, it takes me back to that particular day, on that particular trip – when it was just the two of us – enjoying it just being the two of us and not knowing yet the joy that lay ahead of us with the start of our young family.

Here's one post on one of our favorite adventures – New Mexico and the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta:

Wow, what a fabulous quote! I can so relate to that. Photography is definitely a way for me to run away, to have a little break from everything. When I look through my camera lens I see things differently, everything is more interesting, the details come to life.

Photography helped me so much after my last move, when I had to leave New York to go back to Switzerland. Seeing things through my camera lens just made everything seem more beautiful, brighter, and less overwhelming.
