textured life

March 31, 2008 By Kate Inglis

I stood there for a solid five minutes trying to find his eyes. No luck.

And he stood there contemplating me, his chum decidedly unimpressed. It was as if I’d asked to take his picture and he’d sheepishly replied, “Meh.”

(ba-dum-dum.)

Have you ever had one of those lovely moments in which you ask permission without speaking, and some momentarily peaceful, still, contented beast cooperates?

here’s a zebra taken a long time ago with a crappy camera through a car window, but something about his proximity and eyes makes me like it still

What a great shot — love the texture, and the feeling of connection with the shaggy thing. Here’s my cooperating fauna — it helps if you’re feeding them at the time. ๐Ÿ™‚

This deer was looking straight at us! Too bad I could only get the picture using night shot mode, he was very cooperative while I tried other camera settings too but I just couldn’t figure out how to get a good nighttime picture. I have a lot to learn ๐Ÿ™‚

This made me giggle because I immediately thought of my children. Not in a beasty way. But the fact when they do cooperate, it’s amazing. And it might not be what I felt I wanted.

For a long time I stood there assuring that mama I would never hurt her sweet little baby. And though the baby heard my voice and wanted to come closer to check me out, still the mama would not let her.
After another 10 minutes or so, finally, the mama looked at me and I SWEAR I heard her let out a sigh and say, "oh, all right" in disgust. Then, her precious little one came around the front and began to munch hay right before my eyes. =)

Just this past weekend I walked right by three deer standing still as statues on a stone wall. Inititally, I thought they were leftover christmas reindeer ornaments. I hardly gave them a second glance..until one of them moved ever so slightly. For a moment – we simply stared at one another. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Quickly – I pulled my camera out of its bag, It was the click of the shutter that spooked them and sent them running.

I did manage to capture this (among a few other memorable shots):

We were walking through a field, on our way back from the trail that led to the amazing waterfalls. The field was filled with horses. I walked amoung them, and they came to me.

Then of course there was that elk that stood in the middle of town square.

Here is a picture I took a few years back of a bluebird near Hahns Peak in Colorado. He sat there an amazingly long time.

My friends have some wonderful chickens, and I have been so excited to capture just how beautiful chickens can be. It turned out to be much more difficult than I thought. Just when I was about to give up, Henrietta stopped clucking around and posed for me.

Oh man! I was just thinking, well wishing for that yesterday! I was walking to my car and heard all these birds singing. I looked up and saw the nest, but couldn’t really see the birds. I wish I had a better camera with a major zoom lens and that the birds would have posed for me while I took the shot. Maybe one day. I did get a picture of the nest though. : )

Just a few weeks ago I walked across the street from my kids’ Karate Dojo to take a picture of the farm’s fence when this mare came up and started to graze. She looked at me once, I composed the picture, and she looked away. She never looked back at me again.

This photo ( whole series, really) should be published. It’s awesome – reminds me of something I’d find in a little old celtic book shop on a gravel road in Ireland. And I say that without ever being there. It’s nostalgia-laden, that adorable sheep.

I think that to get the credit loans from banks you ought to present a great motivation. But, one time I’ve got a student loan, because I wanted to buy a bike.
