the details

May 14, 2011 By Paige Balcer

As a new mom, the days and nights tend to blend together into a constant flow of diapers, feedings and laundry. I am one month into the job and am realizing that taking care of a newborn is a much bigger task than one can ever prepare for, but the bright spots are also much brighter than I could have hoped for. I am learning how important it is to capture the details of my baby boy during these days where my memory seems a little foggy. I don’t want to forget the tiny toes, soft skin and perfect lips of my little one because he already seems to be growing so fast.

I’m enjoying every tiny part and piece of my little guy these days. What kind of details are you focused on in your life?

What a precious image of your beautiful baby boy!!!
Today – I'm focused only on that we've had our first day of sun in over a week. I don't want to forget how bright and dazzlingly bright it is:

Awww! He's BEAUTIFUL! Congratulations! In my experience, it got a lot easier after six weeks. (Order The Happiest Baby on the Block via Netflex!)

I'm focusing on all the lovely changes and milestones as my little guy leaves the baby stage and moves steadily towards Big Boy. On a recent vacation, all I had was a point-and-shoot camera, but the last photo in the bunch held some magic…

When my first grandchild was born, I had been watching a baby at church grow and grow and grow.
After having three children, I knew that a newborn is so very very different than a one-year-old.
I made (in secret) a first-year album for my grandson seen here:
    https://picasaweb.google.com/107927780260364367087/Album20072008IanSFirstYear#
There are only two words for a baby's first year: enjoy and photograph.
Enjoy now; use the photographs to remember.

I know I've shared these photos here before, but my blog post is so similar to what you've said today. My daughter just turned one, so these photos were taken a little more than a year ago and I was feeling much like are. Even though we were tired and everything was chaotic, I felt like I had to stop and take photos of her little fingers, toes, and folds. Congratulations on your newborn!

What a beautiful baby photo! I regret that I knew nothing about cameras or photography when my four year old was a baby. I can only hope that one day I'll have another one to take pictures of. Regardless, it's never too late to capture details ๐Ÿ™‚

I don't have the opportunity to focus on little babies anymore, but I'm still enjoying the little details, even on the blades of crabgrass:

My boy will be 16 this week – as he stands 6'2 (and still growing), it's hard to remember that he once fit neatly between my elbow and hand…

Like his mom, he loves discovering the natural world, and yesterday we discovered where dandelions get their magic.

Oh such a sweet image and you've captured the details perfectly. It looks like babies are an on-going theme with everyone's response. But, my kids are almost grown. So, I don't have a great baby image to share. But, I will share an image I photographed not too long ago. These are some buttons that belonged to my grandmother. For some reason in her sewing box where there were lots of other buttons, she had these tied together. As if saving them for a special purpose. I love the detail of the string holding the buttons together.

Just a little something that belonged to someone I love and miss dearly.
