wild sky

December 31, 2010 By Tracey Clark

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light;
The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.

Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.

-excerpt from Ring Out Wild Bells by Alfred, Lord Tennyson

We can think of nothing more true than the infinite possibility of a brand new year. Today, as we ring out 2010, share with us shots of your own wild sky. It is often said ‘the sky is the limit’ after all and we love the sound of that.

    So lovely to look at images of wild skies now that the sky here is a flat and low uniform grey.

    That is a beautifully dramatic sky! I love the processing, it really enhances the photo.

    Here is one of my recent favorite skies:

    happy new year. i 'found' a poet to go with my sky. wonderful way to start the new year. Antonio Porchia couldn't sell his book of poetry, so he gave it away at libraries and became famous. Give abundantly! happy. happy.

    Love the treatment of this photo!

    Driving on a 28 mile dirt road last fall near Red Lake Wildlife refuge to take photos of Trumpeter Swans (who had not yet arrived) and stopped to take photos of a storm moving overhead, in contrast to the sunlit gold prairie grasses, and a lone mailbox. Solitude and drama.

    Happy New Year's!!!

    One of my favorite sky shots.

    Taken on the first 4th of July that my boyfriend and I got to spend together, after 2 years of dating. It was a special and very fun evening.

    2010 has been a good one. Hope everyone has a great 2011!

    I love taking sunset photos. Here's a recent one taken just over a month ago off the Na Pali Coast of Kauai. It's a fitting tribute to the old year as it goes off into the sunset. (Yeah, I know: Pretty corny!)

    Happy New Year to all you Shutter Sisters out there! 😀

    Have you ever gone outside and said, "It smells like it's going to rain"? Am I the only one who does that? I don't know exactly what the smell is, it's just a smell. I've read that the nose can detect hundreds of different scents, and that they conjure up memories more powerfully than any of the other senses. I believe it. Every time I smell sawdust I am taken back to my dad's workshop where I would play with his pieces of scrap wood and tiny brad nails, "building" my own masterpiece (a misshapen box, a sign with my name carved in it, etc.)

    Anyway, sky… with rain.
