I am embracing the snow in Omaha (although I haven’t been the one shoveling our driveway). No one was prepared for the extreme winter conditions we are experiencing right now. And it is making life a little difficult due to longer commutes, dangerous temperatures, and school closings. But I happen to think it’s quite beautiful, and if the temperature outside wasn’t 1 degree I would be out there taking pictures all day. Not only because of the beauty of it all, but so that I can look back in 10 years and say “remember that year that we got 28 inches of snow in the month of December?”. “Remember when there were snow drifts in our neighborhood that were 10 feet tall?” I have proof. And isn’t that what photography is all about? Capturing a moment or memory so that we can have proof that it happened?
What proof of winter do you have in your neck of the woods?
Aaah yes..the simple beauty of endless winter:

http://jennifer-renner.blogspot.com/ some proof right here. Not much because not much snow sadly, but some proof :-).
Love your photo. Our proof arrived in early December, near our house, although not at our house! Documented, soon to be printed.

What a lovely image. I love the shadows and the rusty tones in the background. Hopefully it will warm up a bit for you!
In Maine we seem to have constant proof that winter exists.

our last snow appeared on new year’s eve and disappeared on january 1st, but i’m sure there’s more on the way. these photos were taken on the same morning in two different neighborhoods. this set is warm

happy weekend. stay warm.
If I can bear the temp I’d capture it. I’ve been saying that if it just snowed it would be more bearable but all we’ve got is unusual cold cold temp in S. Texas. Unusual. http://thehipmommasjournal.squarespace.com/journal/2010/1/7/ice-ice-baby.html
Snow angels! This was the first white Christmas for our city…snow is not so common here!

This was Denmark during a rare December snow: http://www.sageandsimple.com/2009/12/winter-wonderland.html
They have a white Christmas every 15 years on average and I was lucky enough to experience one this past year. It was magical!
We had our first white Christmas since my seven-year-old was born! It snowed a week before Christmas and stuck around that long, a doubly rare event for Richmond, VA. We stood outside in amazement the night it all came down.

There are a lot of signs of winter around my place! New England is stuck on "winter", and I don’t mind a bit!

I always think if it’s going to be cold we might as well have snow! I ran out "into" it on this shot

and yesterday it was sunny and warm enough for the birds

We did get one good snow here in NYC. (which I LOVED) Since then, we’ve only been getting a small bit of snow that looks pretty for about a day and then disappears. Here are some photos of the one morning about a week and a half ago that we woke up to snow in our city…

I used my nifty fifty lens and, no, I did not enhance the colours at all. Our winter is just this beautiful: http://www.schmutzie.com/2010/01/winter-morning-snow.html
It has been cold and snowie so far this year in my neck of the woods.
I love the magic snow makes in photos…
Here is my "proof" this morning.

Your post prompted me to look through photos from the holidays, full of frosty sun — timely as today is dark and wet!

I am with you! In MD we have had the snowiest December I can remember. The biggest was 2 feet of snow that reached to my horses’ knees. Check this out:

Winter in So. Cal isn’t much of a winter at all. It’s been in the mid 70’s for the last 2 weeks!

i love the simplicity of this shot.
i do remember when snow was magical as a child for me. now it’s a hassle — especially when you do a 180 in a four-lane highway on the way to work like i did thursday… yikes! we’ve been hit hard with snow in the midwest so far this year.
but i’m trying to get that magical feeling about snow again. trying to take pictures when i can. it may not be fun to look at, but it’s wonderful to look at.
here is what winter looked like at sunset on new year’s eve last weekend.

It’s hard to find super obvious signs when you’re in California — we mainly have bare trees and dead leaves. With that enticing description, here’s my picture of it:

I have proof too, lots of snow! If you wish, visit my site-
When I lived on the east coast we had plenty of winter and I have to admit, I don’t miss it so much. The snow is lovely before Christmas but come the new year I always had enough of it. The milder climate of the Pacific Northwest suits me much better, and it can get pretty cold here, too! This is how I love winter here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kcmartin/4156607963/
Just love the snow + how lovely it makes everything!

Fun times!
Proof of winter in Southern California can be as simple as grey skies, long sleeves and uncrowded stretches of beach:

Snow is so rare in our area, even a stomach bug couldn’t keep me from going out and taking a few pics!

It is a good thing that I love snow living here in New England…There is still as much snow on the ground as when I posted about a walk in the woods…

We are full up on winter here, unusually so for Maryland.
I had fun walking around shooting the day after we got 16 inches of snow the week before Christmas. I think it was the most we’ve ever had in December.

I paid a visit to the Capitol lawn a day or so later and loved the snowmen. ๐

unfortunately, it doesn’t look much like winter around nyc right now– but we did have a wonderfully magical blizzard before the holiday. i went with my camera to the middle of the brooklyn bridge (which was completely deserted and overwhelmingly magical)– here’s a peek into that wonderful night

here’s my proof. : ) snow is a total pain but the simple beauty of it makes me feel as if all is right with the world.

We went to visit my parents in Michigan for Christmas. It was the most beautiful winter I have ever seen:

http://steviet365.blogspot.com/2009/12/december-20th.html I love how it looks when the snow is still fresh and untouched
Winter, yeah I think that was here briefly in the desert during the first week in December.

From what I hear it totally went southeast to Florida. Could you send some back this way?
Well… we are as cold as cold can be– PLUS we have an inversion — where the low clouds stay in the valley captured on both sides of mountains — then good ol smog makes for muggie days..
But then I can capture the beauty and say it isnt so bad.

Buildings are not very cheap and not everyone can buy it. However, <a href="http://lowest-rate-loans.com/topics/mortgage-loans">mortgage loans</a> are invented to support people in such hard situations.
