wonderland

February 4, 2012 By Tracey Clark

“This is what a Utah winter looks like,” she told me as she drove me from Salt Lake City up to Park City, Utah. I marveled from the passenger side as huge snowflakes poured out of the vast bucket sky.

Click, click, click.

Through the windshield I snapped image after image of the landscape that surrounded us. Amazed by what I saw. It had rained all day until all of the sudden, it turned to snow. And minutes later, a total transformation from all gray to winter white. I don’t recall ever seeing anything quite like it. We could have been on the moon for all I knew.

It was a long and harrowing drive for most of the people on the road that afternoon but not for her. And even if it was, she wouldn’t let on. Apologizing all over myself for the amount of time I was stealing from her day and for the traffic and for the weather, she urged, “This is the magic, Tracey. I wasn’t going to let you miss the magic.”

And I didn’t. Those 24 hours were filled with picturesque views, real winter weather, my camera, big boots, bright lights, warmth, inspiration, and friendship. In a word; magic.

Share with us today your wonderland. When you gaze outside your window, what magic awaits you? Let’s see the landscape that surrounds you today.

Beautiful image. We're still waiting for snow here in my neck of the woods. I keep hoping! http://instamaticgratification.wordpress.com/2012/01/23/23366/

We've had so little real winter here this season. The landscape – mostly – looks like this:

But – up in Vermont – I was lucky enough to see and capture snow:

Winter has finally come to Cornwall announcing its intentions with an icy wind on the beach.

The same thing happened here overnight, Tracey. Isn't it marvelous! Within a couple of hours everything has changed and all the colors and hues are different. It's like living on a strange planet, all the sounds are muffled and everything is covered with a thin white veil of mist. I love it! Here in the netherlands we were completely unprepared (as usual) for this wintry weather. This morning there were tons of people out in the cold to take photographs. Me among them of course. Trying out my new PEN :-() And the 16:9 format…. I just love the lone blackbird in the right corner.

We've been blessed with thick intense fog and hors frost for the last 2 days making it a winter wonderland as far as the eye can see…which has been about 20 feet. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here in the Northwest to have a winter wonderland is "extreme" weather. That's what we had just a few weeks ago

looking at all of these winter wonderland photos has me wishing! here on the central coast of california {and all of california for that matter} we're in the midst of an incredibly warm winter. at this point we have planned…and cancelled…three trips to the snow…because there really isn't any! this photo was taken last saturday at the end of my weekly long beach run. it was a beautiful day and as i ran along the shore i was amazed to see families with umbrellas and blankets and picnic baskets…ready for a day at the beach "in january?" i thought to myself. when i was done i turned around and looked down the beach toward the rock and shot this with my phone. not the typical winter wonderland scene…but definitely a part of the magical landscape that surrounds me.

I'm one of the desert folk at the moment was able to go home to Canada for a short while. I'd forgotten the magic of snow. Don't get me wrong, I don't miss shoveling the stuff everyday or scraping my windshield every morning. These are a couple of shots I got while I was there.

Gazing outside my window, I get to see my lovely garden. I've been neglecting it lately, but it still rewards me with some pretty finds.

I get overwhelmed knowing the little things are the big things in retrospect. It means I spend more than my share of time trying to let go, I can't keep it all. Which of the small things should I keep?

Boy do we have snow!!! In Finland the snow is knee-high, and it's -20 degrees Celsius (-4 Fahrenheit). I've got TONS of pictures. You kind of get numb to the beauty of snow…

    This was taken today:
    http://photobyansku.blogspot.com/2012/02/is-there-someone-already-getting-bored.html

    Here's a winter collage:

This is a self portrait with some snowfall:

The down side is that the spring comes very late… by then I'll be sick & tired of the snow…
