Words & Image…. Image & Words

August 26, 2011 By Kim Klassen

Often I read a beautiful quote, and imagine an image in my mind.

Other times I see an image and then go looking for words to accompany it.

I hung these lovely little sweetheart roses in the back of the closet several months ago. I had totally forgotten them. I went looking for something today, and there they were, waiting patiently.

The timing was perfect. I had just read this beautiful quote…..

“Do not watch the petals fall from the rose with sadness, know that, like life, things sometimes must fade, before they can bloom again.”

The words spoke to me, taking me back to a time of deep sadness and broken hearts. These words allowed me to pause, and give thanks that we made it through. We survived!

The subject and words came together in perfect harmony. As if they both found me!

Don’t you love when that happens?

Today, what words have moved you to take a photo, or what photo has moved you to find just the right words? Or perhaps, like me, they found you! Please share with us today.

…..

p.s. Today’s image was processed using Totally Rad’s new plugin, RadLab! I can’t even begin to explain how incredible it is!! It’s beyond anything I could have imagined! I will be back soon to share a review of it’s AWESOMENESS. But in the meantime, run, don’t walk, over to the Totally Rad site and check it out!

Lately – it's been the photo that evokes the words:

That's such a beautiful quote (and photo) – perfect together; they somehow become more than the sum of their parts.

I found the most beautiful poem by Amy Lowell and knew exactly what I wanted to photograph (with my Polaroid)… http://www.angiemuldowney.co.uk/2011/07/the-tree-of-scarlet-berries/

gorgeous, I love the combination of quote & photo.

I have often used quotes or song lyrics as the title for a photo & usually it involves finding the words for a photo I've already taken. Just lately I've been creating titles instead – which hopefully match the photo ๐Ÿ™‚

    Yes, oh yes!

Like you, Kim, I am so inspired by the combinations that find me, when I am open to them.

This weekend I found myself sitting beside the lake deep in thought. I took this photo and when I was back home looking at the image on my computer one simple word came to mind, Solitude.

As a creative writer and a photographer, I'm always trying to figure out ways to combine the two things I love. You've done it so wonderfully in your photo. The words seem to amplify the photo (if that makes sense).

Yes, I love the marriage or words and images. Here are a few images on mine that prompted me to go looking for just the right words (or they simply came to me).

I had read these words in a novel that I took away on holiday with me and as soon as I saw my photograph I just knew that the two would go together perfectly.

I love the combination of words and images for me each contributes to the other.

I have an obsession with quotes! I think because sometimes I can't put my thoughts into words so look for one to show my feelings. It's funny, today I searched for words to describe the photos I wanted to post on my blog. This is what I came up with:

I hope you don't mind, but I had also taken some photos of fading roses and found your quote irresistible. I used a couple of your textures in processing as well.

I love quotes, and I love photography. I especially love it when I can combine the two ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi!! Recently happened to me. I'm in a situation where I was lost. As if trapped in a cage and did not know where to go. One day, in a children's party, took a picture that represented exactly what was going on. The photo of a beautiful cage. Do you want more? Sometimes we are so lost in our thoughts we can not find the door through the bars. Take a look:

I wrote this as I was recovering from surgery – the roses were on my mantle and I left them there to slowly dry. The photos are not anything special – just taken with a point and shoot from my bed – they are only to illustrate the story of the dried roses that I gazed at as they stood next to the old stopped clock. Here's the link:

Just found your site – as I am a rank amateur photographer -just having received a DSLR – I am searching for sites to encourage and teach me. I am in love with photography! Thanks. Hope you enjoy the poem, which is so in sync with your photo today!
