your best shot 2010

December 26, 2010 By Irene Nam

There’s a group on Flickr that invites its members to reflect on 12 months of capturing life and share their best shot for 2010.

What I like most about this exercise is that it allows me to go back to the earlier months with the kindness that I often lacked of during those moments. Looking back I realize how self-conscious I’ve been at times, that one of my enemies in my creative process is common sense, but that I’ve also been brave and learned a lot (even though probably not as much as I wanted to).

This past year for me has been about developing techniques with digital photography, slowing down, bringing a playful and joyous energy behind what I do and learning how to create the images that I want. The photo above is the one that I shared with the group, my best shot 2010.

Today, show us yours.

It's a real challenge to pick just one 'best shot' from this past year..as there as so many different categories..and always so subjective. So – here are a few that today – I think are among my favorites:
    Best landscape shot:

    Best surprise shot:

What a wonderful photo! I love the reflection and possibility you captured.

This is the first photo that came to mind for me, so for that reason, I will say this is my best photo of 2010:

Each time I ask myself what is my best shot in 2010, I come up with a different answer. Today, it's this one:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/85057042@N00/4631045463/
There's something about the grandness of it and the blue summer sky that appeals to me, now that we're in the depth of winter.

I chose this one b/c it was the first time I ventured over to St. Petersburg by myself just for photography.

it's hard to choose, but i'd have to go with either this picture of a beautiful vintage chandelier:
    http://helloannabeth.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/dsc_0064.jpg

or one of these pictures from my trip to the mountains:

I've enjoyed looking at all the different shots. Such variety. I commented on peoples' flicker page. Couldn't figure it out here.
    My favorite "thought provoking" shot:

You're right. This does push us to look back at what went right/wrong or better than we thought.
    Thanks, Citymom

It's always difficult to pick a best shot but this year was even more difficult. I found that I just didn't take as many pictures. Not sure what's behind my creativity block at the moment but am trying to work my way through it.

Here's what I consider my best for the year. It's a picture of my grandson catching air while sledding. He just looks so nonchalant and like this happens every day. Reality is that we live at the beach and sledding is a big deal. He was so excited.

I put together a gallery of my favorite shots for the year:

    http://www.pbase.com/skiingrn1/2010favorites

Maybe I need to start just making myself shoot everyday to push through this block.

    love that sidearm of flare!
this is a fun if challenging task when you take photos every day.

one of my favorites of my children:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/22487105@N06/4762357498/

of a car – a favorite subject of mine
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/22487105@N06/5264682729/

and a sentimental favorite – my shot of the day on my birthday, it was featured on Shutter Sisters a few days later and won me the grand prize for photography at the county fair – my first-ever competition
